The best thing Babcock ever did....

and it wasnt lucking into the Buzz hire, although some credit is due there. No, it is having the guts to fire JJ in the first place after just TWO seasons. Remember Whit was only a few months into the job and it was a very un-VT thing (at least at the time) to not give a coach at least a third year. But he did the absolute best thing and took forceful decisive action and cut our losses. Had JJ coached a 3rd year there would have almost certainly been some progress and frankly that would have made it more difficult to let him go, even knowing that he was never going to be up to the job. So I was extremely pleased with Whit at that moment in time. The Greenberg firing and JJ hiring cold have easily cost VT 5 or 6 years minimum- and Whit's action cut it in half. ** Edited by Vippie1 at 5/13/2026, 6:33:12 PM
