IMO, his defense this year is markedly better.
It's obvious he's been working on it. That being said, he's usually "out-physicalled" by whomever he is asked to guard. He can't guard quick guards, and bigger players just abuse him physically. If I were coaching opposing teams, I would try to exploit him, because other match ups are not as favorable. It isn't because of lack of effort on his part.
