The ruling in Virginia/Tennessee v NCAA means the NCAA cannot keep schools from bringing those types of things in-house but it doesn't mandate that they have to It also doesn't re-write any laws in states where revenue sharing with athletes would be illegal under state law So, a school can decide independently how they want to handle revenue sharing, who does their NIL management, etc. But no law has yet to force them into any method. I do think schools in Tennessee and Virginia (and some other states with similar rules) will have a leg up for a certain period of time until people catch up. Another aspect of this that I'm particularly interested in is how universities handle the resources beyond just NIL funds going straight to athletes. You have to educate, you have to market, you have to be a liasion between businesses, donors, athletes, coaches and admin. You have to write the contracts. You have to maximize your resource allocation. So...do you: 1) hire new positions into your athletic department directly related to NIL This is probably the most school-centric option, but easily the most expensive. Salaries, benefits, legal, etc. 2) re-purpose current resources from within the athletic department to cover NIL This is the cheapest, but also means the most stretched-thin option making things run inefficiently either on the NIL side or admin side 3) hire outside firms to handle certain aspects of NIL Not as expensive as all new positions, but also not cheap. The downside is the red tape of things that are outside the scope of a written contract. The firms also don't have specific allegiance to your university outside of wanting to please their client to continue getting more worm I am interviewing with a firm who currently does this in about 45 min. They do not work with Virginia Tech specifically (Deloitte does, however)
