I do not see Jones and Gurdak playing together for long periods of time unless it's against someone like UNC or FSU who play bigger at the 4 spot. Even then, I think there are better ways to defend bigger 4s than give up versatility and athleticism playing a bigger lineup. At worst, he's insurance in case Jones were to leave early. At best, he and Jones can be the best 1-2 punch at center that VT has ever had
