Strength is a big one...

But there's a big difference in coordination levels of a 17 year old who is 6'10 vs someone who is 7'0 For Gurdak, he is much stronger, and hasn't had the large growth changes from year to year so he has grown into his body more. He has some similarities (and major differences) with VTs previous 4 centers He is going to have the touch like Kidd around the rim, and the ability to get to the spots he wants to like Poteat. He plays with a confidence level like Aluma and Basile, but doesn't have the range they did. He is much stronger in his lower half than Kidd and Wessler, much like Ryan Jones in that regard, so he gains position well, even against similar size/bigger players. I do not see Jones and Gurdak playing together for long periods of time unless it's against someone like UNC or FSU who play bigger at the 4 spot. Even then, I think there are better ways to defend bigger 4s than give up versatility and athleticism playing a bigger lineup. At worst, he's insurance in case Jones were to leave early. At best, he and Jones can be the best 1-2 punch at center that VT has ever had

If Jones can actually become a legit 3pt threat may be hard to take him off
VickFlick_Skip 07/10/24 03:50 PM ET
I think both have the potential to be a reliable defender at the 5...

I can't wait to see Jones in the Cassel. I don't think we've been this deep
