By the way the folks on the message boards that have always dissed him have always been saying more about their selves then Bill. He WAS a beautiful human being. I have my own "son story" with Bill Walton, although not nearly as poignant as yours. My son works for one of the major sponsors of NCAA athletics and got a chance to take a VIP trip to the Final Four in Houston in 2023. Part of the weekend events was a concert with some big country heavyweights where he got to sit in the VIP section in the first row for the show. He noticed that two rows behind him was Bill sitting so he took out his camera to do a selfie of him with Bill in the background. Bill saw what was going on and raised his arms straight up with a goofy full grin on his face and gave my son a fun photo . My son sent it to me in real time- and I told him as a cycler (and knowing Bill was an avid cyclist) to tell him that "my Dad wants to cycle with you". At the end of the show he shouted it at Bill and got a quick acknowledgement (although my son doesn't think he really heard what he said). Anyway, just more proof of Bill's willingness to engage with anyone, anytime.
