It is a total cop out

You dont have to be a brimstone bible thumper to realize the societal costs of governments putting their imprimatur on gambling far exceeds the benefits (tax revenues) because a LOT more people do it when it is legal and promoted than otherwise. A better way is for governments to live within its budgets without resorting to relying on these type revenues. And lest anyone want to go political on this- in my mind that means making the hard choice to either raise taxes to cover a shortfall or cut services/spending. Either option is better and healthier then the present. State endorsed gambling is just another way to look the other way and kick hard choices down the road.
