Terrible article, it’s an OpEd with no opinion other than “bad man bad”
Everyone knows that the football failure isn’t acceptable and Whit takes a more hands off approach to PR after his disaster with the end of the Fuente tenure. He could be doing a lot more on that front to drive support for the program and I would say that’s his biggest failure in his role. Strategically he has made more right moves than wrong ones, and if you truly believe in your planning you can’t let slip-ups derail you. But to make that happen you need to get in front of things which Whit doesn’t ever do.
A good article would’ve recommended some solutions, or at a basic level called out some of the underlying issues. Just saying “we suck” is awful journalism (if that’s what we’re calling this). At the very least, call out what he isn’t doing that he should be doing other than funding and firing coaches, because the former was fully aligned with the BoD and the latter is the end of his job.
Because of his position he isn’t able to say the quiet part out loud. He can’t say we’re underfunded, he can’t say our alumni base doesn’t donate, he can’t say we have extremely limited corporate sponsors, he can’t say ACC leadership is corrupt, he can’t say his coaches made mistakes. All he can do is refute and advocate, neither of which he does particularly well at a time when VT desperately needs it

It's more simple than that. Lose games in sports that matter and anything

What's hilarious is using "went to a bowl game" as your standard.
