I think if your "system" takes multiple years to succeed in yes...

...but I've also always felt that was overstated with regards to anyone other than freshman. Getting freshman ready to play college basketball but once someone has been in college and understands college basketball most guys can pick up things in enough time to be ready to play. UConn is very modern and complex on offense and their new additions stepped right in and are rolling. Alabama lost almost their entire team and tweaked their offense and are rolling. Purdue, to me, is the most complex offensive team in the country and guys like Lance Jones have been able to step in and succeed in their first year as a transfer. I think coaches certainly need to adapt to changes in the game and changes in how long you have players but great defensive coaches are great defensive coaches and great offensive coaches are great offensive coaches and they adapt and stay great. The only thing that has been hurt is the recruitment of HS players because coaches are viewing everything through a one year window and those guys are being recruited less than ever because as a one year bet they often aren't a good investment.

Are "system" coaches viable in college basketball anymore?

The QB in 🏈 dictates the O you run, the Point Guard in 🏀 does the same.

Nope, after 1st pass, PG is just 1 of the 5 players on the court

I agree it has to be more than the point guard, just like more than the QB
