... is completely ridiculous. Especially in a game (baseball) where anything can happen on any given day.
Lutterman flied out with the bases loaded to end the game. What if he had simply gotten a bloop single, so elegantly described in Bull Durham? That one bloop single would make VT 10 spots better in the RPI? Give me a break, that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.
Basketball figured it out: dump the RPI and use something different.

Both committees claimed that DSR & KP would be a new metric for determining seeding and postseason for diamond sports. Well…softball committee straight up ignored it.
Biggest beef I have with using RPI by committees is they talk about comparable RPI teams then compare SOS. WELL….that’s double dipping. SOS is already a part of the RPI math…WHY are you counting it twice???
Baseball rankings
KPI 36
DSR 24
RPI 45
If we were named “Texas” or “Alabama” I know they’d “use DSR AND KPI”. We’re VT…Watch if we lose today they’ll leave us out and only cite RPI and/losing our last 2 games
I find it pretty fascinating that both VT Diamond sports teams had significantly lower RPI than the new DSR rankings

They only give it out to non-SEC teams.
Instead of curing your headache, ESPRPIN gives you one.

... their favored teams. And we know the $EC is at the top of their favored teams.

Invitationals
Doesn’t mean they’re not the best conference…they are in both sports (but the B12 is closer to them than they’ll admit). SEC is the best league for diamond sports but they are also given every advantage imaginable as well
