Transfer 3B/1B Owen Petrich commits to VT. Looks like a good get...
Below is a link where Josh Poslusny of The Tech Lunchpail is reporting the commitment (via Petrich's Instagram).
Petrich started his career at Delaware but transferred to St. Joseph's where he played the last two years and was a consistent hitter with some good pop. Here is a look at his stats the last two years:
- 2024: .317 avg, .355 obp, .517 slg, .872 ops, 11 2b, 11 hr, 60 rbi
- 2025: .310 avg, .391 obp, .571 slg, .962 ops, 10 2b, 15 hr, 61 rbi
He was primarily a 3B during his time at St. Joseph's but played mostly 1B at Delaware. With his signing and Ryder Kirtley entering the the portal, our infield for next year is starting to take shape:
Starters: 1B-Petrich, 2B-Davis, SS-Grady, 3B-Lutterman
Backups: 1B-Chandler, 2B-Gibson, SS-Hurt, 3B-Ball
The thing to watch will be whether we target another transfer to plan for a potential loss of Davis in the draft. I could see us looking to add another starter quality corner infielder to give us the flexibility of moving Lutterman to 2B if Davis goes pro.
Also, with Petrich's right-handed bat and middle-of-the-order potential, we should be able to have some better L/R balance in our lineup. Below is a possible very early look at a lineup for next year:
1. R - Mycah Jordan (RF)
2. L - Treyson Hughes (CF)
3. R - Owen Petrich (1B)
4. L - David McCann (DH)
5. R - Jared Davis (2B)
6. L - Anderson French (C)
7. R - Hudson Lutterman (3B)
8. L - TBD Transfer LF or R - Nick Locurto (LF)
9. R - Clay Grady (SS)

add more players. Alot of business is done in the summer leagues. Plus a new pitching coach should bring a couple of hurlers with him.

And mashing corner outfielder. Petrich looks like a good get, just not sure he projects middle of order in Acc with that OB% in mid major…massive jump in competition. Good homer and strikeout rate #s.

Both played in the A10 before transferring to VT. Micheletti had a superior batting average (.384) and obp (.460) but Petrich had slightly better slugging (.571 vs. .563) and power/run production (15 hr 61 rbi vs. 6 hr 48 rbi) while having similar walk rates (28 bb in 243 pa vs. 28 bb in 262 pa) and only slightly worse strikeout rate (25 so in 243 pa vs. 19 so in 262 pa).
Micheletti was able to make the jump pretty effectively and be a middle of the order hitter for us. Petrich will likely hit in the .280 range but as of now, he would be one of our better power hitters.
I tend to agree on your assessment of Davis in that he'll likely get drafted. I am not sure how realistic of a target he would be, but Ryan Jaros of NC State (and previously Georgia Tech) would potentially be a good fit at 3B with Petrich at 1B and Lutterman at 2B in the event Davis does go pro.
I also agree we could use an experienced left fielder to help round out our lineup. Another power hitter would be nice but if we can get someone in the mold of Watson or Cannizzaro, that would work as well.
