The draft and minor league structure changed after covid. Fewer HS guys
Go straight to minors, and with the portal the better lower level college guys are more likely to end up in SEC-ACC. The draft was basically cut in half and lower minors is essentially partially outsourced to college baseball. I'll bet close to 1/3 of the draft is acc/sec players these days.
As for our ability to compete, we did have a great year in 2022, and were completely decimated by injuries 2 of the past 3 seasons. There are 6 or so "traditional baseball powers" in our league - Miami, FSU, GT, Clemson, UNC and UVA (past 20 years), plus Wake and NCSU have excellent programs.
