run by the SEC in terms of championships even excluding Texas & Oklahoma. The long-time/traditional SEC schools aren’t in this year’s championship game but prior to this year, the last six champions and seven of the last eight have all been long-time SEC schools.
And to add to the dominance, if you look at the last 16 teams in the championship game over the last 8 tournaments prior to this year, 11 of the 16 teams are long-time SEC schools and if you count Texas A&M (who was in the SEC at the time) and Oklahoma (who is now in the SEC), that is 13 of 16 teams that are now in the SEC.
It will be interesting to see if the ACC can make more of the CWS championship games going forward. The ACC is the very clear #2 conference in baseball but there is still a material gap between the SEC and ACC.
