I know Raza and Carter mentioned on a recent TSL podcast that Watson could return but curious how he would be eligible to return as he has played in 5 seasons (4 at Elizabethtown, 1 at VT). I know Cannizzaro ended up playing in 6 seasons so maybe Elizabethtown had two seasons partially impacted by Covid? Either way, Watson’s status would impact the outfield playing time picture. The other situation to monitor is with Micah Matthews. If he ends up graduating early as he is currently planning to do, then I think he would factor into the 2025 roster in some capacity. I also thought at one point with how thin we were in the outfield that Anderson French would get a look there, but with how many transfers we brought in, I think he’ll slot primarily at catcher and if his defense and arm proves to be better than McCann, then I think they will have him get back-up catcher duty in 2025 and be poised to start in 2026 and 2027 at catcher. In any case, here are my current projections for the with and without Watson scenarios. For now, I am assuming we will carry 7 outfielders and that Matthews will enroll early and make the 2025 roster. Watson Returns Scenario • Starters: LF-Pittman, CF-Watson, RF-Cherry (I could see Watson and Pittman flip LF/CF) • Backups: LF-Locurto or Jordan, CF-Matthews, RF-Hughes and Hunter • Possible Attrition: Mitch Jones, Nick Locurto or Mycah Jordan Watson Doesn’t Return Scenario • Starters: LF-Hughes, CF-Pittman, RF-Cherry • Backups: LF-Locurto and Jordan, CF-Matthews, RF-Hunter • Possible Attrition: Mitch Jones The other note is that I think this is how things would look to start the season but if any of the transfers struggle or don't have the type of desired impact, we could see some of the younger guys work their way into more prominent roles as Locurto, Jordan and Hunter have had pretty solid summers and then Matthews has a ton of exciting raw potential so the staff likely won't hesitate to mix and match to optimize productivity.
