Soon wages for top educated folks will begin dropping as markets clog with PHD college football players, leaving their 7, 8, 9, and 10 years of college to pursue job markets catering to highly qualified doctors, and research scientists. The days of grinding out 10 wins, and losing one or two key battles but showing we can hang with big dogs. This is not about better development and strength and conditioning, and turning 2 and 3 stars into monster players. This is not about having a mastermind defensive coordinator that shuts down a championship team in the shoe. This is not about hiring an offensive minded coach, and combining forces with a proven defensive coordinator. This is a movement. This is about redemption. It's about Franklin getting fired by the "system" when he is a great coach. It's about that same "system" that tried to use media attention and money to promote a small number of teams. It's about the "system" that tries to keep the spoils all for the SEC and BIG10. This is WAY bigger than anything Hokie fans have ever witnessed. Last time VT rose from the ashes and made noise on the National scene was 1995. QB: Jim Druckenmiller VT is now ready to rise from the ashes again and make noise on the National scene in 2026. QB: Ethan Grunkemeyer Let's look at those last names closely...... Druck en miller Grunk e meyer As you can see, Ethan has the same number of syllables as Jim. That is where the similarities stop however. Ethan has a first syllable of Grunk. Jim has a first syllable of Druck is close to Drunk implies more sporatic and less consistency than Grunk. The second syllable is more telling. Ethan has an e. Jim has an en. Same syllable of one, yet Ethan gets it done with less letters, implying a more efficient release. Jim's last two syllables are miller implying good times and fun "it's miller time" Ethan's are meyer. This implies protein source, and indicates a high level of endurance and durabillity. Jim Druckenmiller will go down as one of the QB greats of Hokie History. However after careful analysis, you can see that Ethen Grunkemeyer has a sky high ceiling. I think by the time we get a few late commits, and completely Kill it with the Portal, we will be looking at the all time greatest recruitment job in Hokie history. So what brought this about, IMO, it's a perfect Hokie Storm. 1. Awareness - VT leadership got agressive with firing PRY, realizing that timing was essential with new Hire. 2. Timing - It took absolute perfect timing for VT to even land James Franklin between VT Looking and Penn State firing. 3. Aggressiveness - VT had to pursue JF Aggressively to help convince him that VT was right destination for him. 4. Pressure - Both JF and VT realized that the deal needed to be closed to take advantage of the situation with recruiting. 5. Exposure - The marriage of VT and JF was celebrated as a win - win victory for both parties, providing lots of positive publicity. 6. Struggle - Penn State's struggle to fill the role once JF left, allowed for a perfect setup for many players to follow JF to VT. 7. Money - Executive board / Babcock / VT realized they had to get serious with money fast to save program. 8. Cooperation - The cooperation and efficient movement of the selection committee, VT management and JF allowed for all parties to take full advantage of the setup, providing maximum benefit to VT and producing real recruiting results. And now we wait for the Portal, where I FULLY expore MORE of the same kind of wins and big Hokie news. It's a perfect Hokie Storm. Hired and in 2 weeks, had VT in the top 25 recruiting classes, with very limited staff, no coordinators, and very limited knowledge and experience with Virginia Tech Football. This truly has been magical to watch. Such an impressive display of recruiting and management capabilities. What does Franklin have in store for Hokie Land from the Portal. Ability to overcome large scale recruit migration outside state of Pennsylvania. Ability to work with unreasonable management team who fires coaches with previous year playoff success. Ability to fill role for 1-2 years max, as you will be fired as soon as we can find someone better in following year or two. Ability to understand that this job will destroy your college coaching resume once we are done with you. Note: We have given up on hiring a top level college coach. We are now looking for a splash hire from NFL to find a big name that is no longer relevant in the NFL and will not really be too interested in fixing our recruiting problems. This really really sets up JF and Hokies with possibility of bringing in top level talent from portal. Once Franklin puts finishing touches on the recruiting flips from Penn and strip mining Virginia, having a long list of high caliber players in portal looking for a Home just plays right into the Hokie Football Machine. We at Penn State are excited about the opportunity we created for the next head coach at Penn State. We just FIRED our very own successful Head coach (see last season) who has assisted our crack management team by removing all of those unsavory characters we did not want (recruits) from our school and actually our entire state. Who knew that's all that was missing. Take a school with 65,000 stadium, international passionate Hokie support, add 10 years of coaching rendition of Benny Hill show, throw in all of the curve balls of Nil, Portal, SEC / ESPN / Disney Marriage, a college playoff we would never make, and decades of frustration. After all that, all we actually needed to do was sprinkle a single large box filled with 1 million Benjamins all over it, and BAM.... Huge coach, recruits, and goodness knows how good we can be. Now we are setup to dominate Virginia recruiting, much of the North East, continually suck talent out of Pennsylvania, along with other near by areas. 1 million Benjamins fixes ALOT of issues doesn't it. Our boys played their tails off. That was the story today. This is a very impressive dog fight from a team that could of given up a half season ago. Very tired of this Negative Nancy Perspective. The "thing" that has almost instantly exploded VT sports, Hokie Football, the sentiment of Hokie fans world wide........ is Alignment. The alignment of VT leadership with the realities of college football (and sports) today. Now we have alignment between VT leadership, James Franklin and the new VT football staff (in progress), all Hokie fans, and the college football (and other sports) world. THIS, is why it truly feels like Virginia Tech is (probably for the first time since the late 90's / early 2000's) truly going in the correct direction. This alignment can not be overstated, and is indeed a rare thing to find. VT has turned a corner now, and as a result, it really feels good from a fan's perspective, to sit back and watch this new "Hokie Football Machine" start up. I think of it like the movie "Man of Steel", where now the Virginia Tech Football Program is like the massive, tripod-like, ancient Kryptonian terraforming machines. Now that the machines have started, football players all over Virginia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and the North East are sensing a "sucking" force pulling them to Blacksburg. Soon, the ACC will be impacted by the Rapid growth of a new football Power. The Media will have to start covering a new football Power. All football programs around us will feel the effects of Hokie terraforming. A new financial Model will be on display, showing what happens when a mid-tier ACC program fully financially backs it's football Program and evolves into a college football machine. Once again, VT has taken a leadership role in college football, and broken previous trends. How far this will go, how it affects the overall direction of college football, and where Coach Franklin can take us without the shackles of financial doubt, we shall soon find out. But the machines are running, the thunderous terraforming machines have started up. All thanks to this rare thing we call Alignment. Thank you Hokie Leadership. This team has gotten me through some of the darkest times since the Beamer Era. I love the high energy hustle, the ball sharing, and the Team First attitude of this team. Why am I so PRO-Whit now. Plain and simple.....James Franklin is PRO-Whit. James talking of what a strong role Whit played in him choosing VT is all I needed to hear. Whether or not Whit is a good public speaker, although him NOT being good is surprising..... is not the most important aspect of his skills in serving VT. He pushed for a budget increase. He has probably been pushing for a budget increase. Our previous budget has been holding us back, and arguably was definitely affecting our previous coach choices. But whether or not I question Whit, and if Whit should be replaced.......... Died for me when James spoke highly of Whit and how important it was to James having a solid relationship with WHIT and Sands. To me, that marked the moment that it's time for Hokie fans to.....Move on. I have said this before, but this budget increase which led to the hiring of JF may later be viewed as Whit's Swan Song, although we may never know how much of a role he actually played. That said, If the JF hire grows the VT product like I think we all think it might, along with the improvements of VT sports in general outside of football, it could be argued that VT sports may well have taken a monumental step forward on Whit's watch.....and that's saying something. Onward and Upward I say. Women's basketball I think was a homerun. Men's basketball is on an upward trend overall. Wrestling is peaking. Other areas are improving. And now we have James Franklin. WHIT Stays for as long as he wants or until JF says he needs to go. You've got the reigns James Franklin! Lead us to the promised land!
