Depending on remaining portal "gets", I think the overall new roster may
be a good upgrade from last year re. talent and ceiling. These are some good athletes we have and I am pretty excited to see how they develop. Yes. experience is certainly important, but I bet they will learn quickly.

Not that she or VT is interested, but I thought Kitley would be great in
coaching young post players. Could probably be a good recruiter too. Of course, I never heard she had a drop of interest in coaching, CMD surely wants experience, and I'll bet Liz can make a lot more $$ in sports media...
Still, one can hope.

Just read on X we are losing assistant coach Darren Guensch
Hired June 2025 for recruiting and player (post) development (link below from when he was hired). He had worked for a while as assistant coach at University of Richmond, and is now going back to work for Roussell at UVA. I think this is true but have not verified. If so, that sucks for CMD and staff. We really need post development AND recruiting, which I am sure is why CMD hired him in the first place. Hope we find someone great for the position. Wonder who was doing that at UVA before Roussell?

As a sidenote, I will be surprised if either gets the number of minutes `
they had at VT, assuming they go to a top program. Maybe that is ok with them and what they wanted, but playing almost 100% of the minutes (like Baker did unless foul trouble) on a good P4 team is a bit of a rarity. It will be interesting if the grass ends up being greener for them. Regardless, the die has been cast now so we move on....

Out of curiosity, what happens to players in the portal but not picked up?
There are something like 1400 players in the portal. That is A LOT. If someone does not get picked up by another team, what happens to them? Do they typically just go back to their old team? Are their playing days over? Just wondering....

Check out her best game of last season in a loss against Ole Miss. A lot of minutes so you can see shooting, positioning, rebounding, etc. Good athlete and nice job for a freshman. Hope we land her. Looks like a good one.

I am not so sure re. your thoughts. We may have a different offense. Trent
might be the 5 (where Freelon was before) but also a rim protector, Latham would replace Baker responsible for inside, outside, rebounds. Hurst could be a shooting forward and play more on the perimeter.
I have no idea of course, but maybe CMD will shake it up a little this year to capitalize more on the strengths (and avoid the weaknesses) that Trent and Jenkins have. I think that would be a good thing to try. So incoming folks would not just be replacement parts for those who portalled or graduated.

I admit I have no idea, but maybe Baker wants to play professionally and
is looking for a higher visibility program that can get her noticed more, and get her more points on the board. If she does want that, she may land with a sweet-sixteen team. Would explain visiting UNC. Maybe landing at Kentucky or Louisville even. I guess it will become clearer once we see where she ends up
If she gets on a team that is not highly ranked, or where she does not start or get a boat load of minutes, and if VT can improve their ranking, she will have screwed the pooch. It's a gamble.

I think VT (under KB) was in Hurst top 5 but not top 3, but Clemson was
and I bet Poppie is going hard to get her. But maybe CMD can inspire Hurst some. VT is not that far from home for her I think. That could help.

Anybody else really curious about where our transfer out folks end up?
It was nice to follow Lanie White some last year. The other two did not play much for their teams. Now I am wondering about Carys, Mackie, Kayl, et. al. I espectially hope to see Kayl do really well next year.....

I think Trent and Jenkins are both superb rebounders. Good under the basket
as well. Need to be better rim protectors, keep from getting into foul trouble, and definitely need to learn how to supply offense in the mid range. They are both talented I think, ane we may see a real progression this coming year.
