I didn't invest in BH until 1983. BH stock made millionaires of thousands of Nebraskans.

I recently attended the Berkshire-Hathaway Shareholders meeting in Omaha (I lost count, but I've attended 30+ of these). This is the first year without Warren sitting on the stage and taking questions. Warren retired (95 years old) in December and turned things over to his hand-picked successor, Greg Abel. Anyway, I always went to pick up some tidbit of investment wisdom (Charlie Munger also had some jewels of wisdom; otherwise, he was famous for saying, "I have nothing to add"). A couple of things that Warren said which have stuck with me: - Stick within your circle of competence. My circle is pretty small, so I don't invest into technology, businesses, or products that I don't understand (or like). - Buy quality investments and buy them with the intent of holding them forever. It just makes sense that if you are going to be one of the company's owners that you understand the company and you buy it with the intention of not selling in the future (not that you would never do that). Also, I am more of a dividend investor. The company's I own pay me monthly or quarterly. I liken it to being a farmer. AD Troy Dannen has publicly stated that men's BB will receive a "significant" increase in its revenue sharing $$$ this coming year. Still, Nebraska is still projected to lag behind the top spenders in the BIG. Interestingly, several of their key players are local to Nebraska (and even Lincoln). That probably helps in retention.

In 2023-24, their men's basketball budget was cited to be $4.13 million. In 2024 it was reported that they had $2M for basketball. In early 2025, their coach indicated they had "just enough" NIL to retain players but not aggressively chase portal additions (though their roster does include some high-profile transfers).

The Pinnacle Bank Arena was a joint project between the city of Lincoln and the University of Nebraska. It is set up for basketball, volleyball, ice hockey, boxing, and concerts. It seats 15,500 for basketball, but you wouldn't need to go that big. It includes luxury suites and some convention meeting rooms, etc. Btw, although near the campus (it's at least a mile away from dorms - which is a cold walk for January), it is not on campus. I'm not convinced that Cassell 2.0 would need to be on campus. I believe it is jointly owned and managed by a third party.

Some coaches are able to do more with less, they are better communicators, better strategist, better motivators, better at judging talent, etc. Resources are important, but don't discount coaching.

Fermented (rotten) shark blubber, even if washed down with Black Death (Brennivin), is not to my liking.

When Neo gets the ball in the backcourt and is pressured, he typically crouches over, turns, and faces the other basket (to shield the ball from the defender with his body). This has to affect his ability to see the court (and his fellow teammates). As noted, he also slows down.

If Tech takes care of business (hits free throws, doesn't turn over the ball, better clock management/awareness), it doesn't come down to the last shot (a heck of a shot, btw). In the closing minutes, Tech seems to be playing "not to lose" instead of "playing to win." As a high school coach for more than 10 years, I always told my players not to beat themselves. You will always run up against a better player (or players), but you can still play hard and play smart. Lately, Tech has not played very smart - and that includes the coaching staff. Still, it is a game - not life or death.

If you are a racing fan, the Museum of American Speed, operated by Speedway Motors, located in Lincoln, NE, is a must see.

Truman Presidential Library was recently renovated and is located in nearby Independence.

I live in Lee's Summit (just east of Arrowhead Stadium) and have been to the WWI Museum several times. I took my Dad (Marine Aviator) there about 6 years ago and thought I'd never get him to leave.😄

First, he had to call off his overland campaign because his supply lines were cut by Nathan Bedford Forrest. Then, Grant sent Sherman on a failed expedition where the Union absorbed heavy losses from a direct assault. Grant followed up by attempting to navigate alternate courses through bayous and canals - the terrain beat him. And then he tried another direct assault and that failed miserably. He finally opted for a seige. Luckily, he had the manpower and resources so that his multiple failures didn't end him. It took him approximately 9 months of failed manuevers before he successfully took Vicksburg.

Some historians believe that Grant's victory at Vicksburg was more critical than the Union victory at Gettysburg (perhaps Grant felt the same based on what he wrote in his memoirs). The loss of Vicksburg did give the Union control over the Mississippi and severed Confederate supply lines, effectively splitting the South geographically. Manpower and resources were certainly on the side of the North. I believe that Lee opted for a strategy where a major Union loss would energize those in the North who wanted to end the war - and this is why he was aggressive (some would say he took too many risks). Longstreet appears to have favored a defensive war - choosing the ground upon which to fight and forcing the North to come to them (while minimizing the South's losses in manpower). It's only an opinion, but I don't believe either strategy would have resulted in a different outcome.

I always mute the TV (whether MBB, WBB, or Football) and listen to the VT sponsored radio broadcast. Evan does a fantastic job (and he knows the players and can pronounce the names). I'll let all my kids know they could have stayed in Lincoln or Omaha and found jobs. The biggest lament in the State is that young people (Nebraska graduates) leave the State to find jobs. Nebraska has some donors/alumni with deep pockets. Football, even over the past few years when the program stunk, was a cash cow. As of last week (Colorado game) they have had 398 consecutive sell-outs. And that is a stadium that seats 90,000.

My son, who lives in Lincoln and uses my season tickets, sent me this (see link below) video of the new Osborne Legacy Center. Nebraska is a small State, but they love their football; and they show it by the amount of money they spend. ** Edited by Will Stewart at 9/13/2024, 10:15:26 PM

VT had several good looks - the shots just didn't fall. On the other hand, it seemed like Duke shot "lights out."

It appears that the teams with dynamic (athletic) guards are winning out over teams with traditional roster where play goes through "bigs." Your thoughts?
