Posting History (60)

Enjoyed the game. Highlight for my grandson

was that before the game Treyson Hughes called him over to the dugout area and signed a ball and gave it to him. He didn't ask and Treyson took it upon himself to notice an 8 year old kid and make his day! Very impressive to me.

question about tickets

Are tickets usually available at the game. Thinking about taking grandson to Duke game Saturday?

I think what was called was the forearm to the back of the neck

Trent was using armbar for defense and it probably got higher than intended. I don't think it was forcible and it was a sketchy call. The reaction made it look worse than it was.

USC is quick

First time I've seen them play this year. They are quick all over the court even without JuJu.

I agree that we didn't execute offense well late in the game or the OT

especially when we were depleted but that was on the most putrid excuses for officiating a game in the history of the sport. It was a hard foul on Wenzel, they were tangled on the floor and the refs should have been immediately in the middle of it separating the players. Danaher never calls a good game. The lady is usually decent. Haven't seen much of the other guy.

Saw Tilly after the game

Ate at PK's after the game. Tilly and her Dad came in to a big round of applause. To the fan's credit, we let them eat in peace!

Looking at Clark's contract as reported, she took a big pay cut

4 year contract total $338,056 and she made an estimated $3.5M in NIL deals during her Senior season at Iowa. Understand that she'll still likely have endorsement deals, etc but that's pitiful pay compared to other professional sports. 40 game season. ** Edited by hokiehoo1 at 4/16/2024, 4:40:28 PM

I hate that FCKB left but

I have to think in his mind he was getting a better situation. Maybe he thought he had done all he could do at VT and wanted another challenge. I don't like the fact that players are leaving but that's the situation in college sports now. Can't blame them for trying to get what they think will be a better situation for themselves. I like the hire and look forward to another year of great WBB in the Castle!

Maybe relevant or not but a person in the athletic dept told me yesterday

that one reason he might go is that now you have to pay players and the SEC schools have more NIL money. To be clear this wasn’t a high level staffer. ** Edited by hokiehoo1 at 3/26/2024, 1:26:16 PM

Quote from Kenny says it all about Liz and Georgia

β€œYou can be a great player,” an emotional Brooks said, β€œbut if you don’t have the mentality, the work ethic, and the ability to lead people β€” when I say lead, I mean, they lead our program, but they also help lead this community. The affect that they’ve had on this community not only young people, old people, they’ve made a lot of people women’s basketball fans here at Virginia Tech. β€œSometimes when you get players of that caliber, sometimes you have to sacrifice a little bit. You have to sacrifice maybe integrity, but those kids are the full package. They’re great kids, and what they’ve done for this program, this community, for me, you can’t even put it into words. That’s how special they are.” (credit David Cunningham from his post game writeup)

Why do we suspect ACL?

The picture in David Cunningham's game writeup shows a huge bruise below the kneecap. One of the pictures immediately after the injury shows her holding that spot on her leg. To me neither would be indicative of an ACL injury but she knows and the team medical people know and we all want to know but there are many good reasons that have been mentioned as to why we don't know.

Neither do many of the officials

A lot of these officials also work WNBA games so I wonder if that isn't an influence on how they call the games.

If you want to see bad officiating, watch a SEC men's game

No blood, no foul is clearly the rule in SEC and sometimes even blood doesn't draw a foul. It's like watching Aussie rules football.

I thought it was a good call too. LSU is used to getting away with that

so I guess that's why Mulkey thought it was so bad. The audacity to call a foul on one of her players!

Mulkey gets $32M ten year contract

half of that is for makeup and hideous outfits. ** Edited by hokiehoo1 at 9/8/2023, 8:44:05 PM

Great event tonight at the University Club

Good food, the place was packed, the players, coaches and staff were awesome. Great time! These ladies are so personable and thankful for the support Hokie Nation gave them this year. Looking very good for the coming year!

How were Reese’s gestures towards Clark not taunting?

Should have been T’ed up (or bβ€”-slapped). Either would have been acceptable in the situation!

This is thug basketball at its best. Gamecocks got nothing on LSU

But blame the officials for being incompetent. TV Teddy is better than this bunch ** Edited by hokiehoo1 at 4/2/2023, 5:26:02 PM

Agree that you don't closely defend poor shooters but

according to stats on yahoo sports, LSU is 2nd in the country in FG % at 52.5% likely because of so many shots in the paint. They are 4th in points scored and 1st in pts per game at 95.9 which seems pretty high. 2nd in rebounds per game but a dismal 227th in FT %.

All true BUT

I thought that only having a 6 player rotation and not being home for almost 2 weeks had to wear on them. Other teams have same issues of course. Still a great season for the ladies. Should help recruiting and give us more opportunity down the road. Thank you for a great season!

We should send a thank you card to Duke

After the dismal game on Jan 26th it seemed that the focus and physicality of the team changed and they never looked back and here we are in the Final 4. Who would have predicted that back in November or even on Jan. 27th?

If the Miami v. LSU refs had been calling last night's game, UT would

have had 5 fouled out by half time. Of course the players will typically adjust to how it gets called.

Given the way TN played in their previous game skepticism

was easy to have. But these ladies just persevere. Of course after watching UConn take out Baylor you had to figure they'd be in the final 4 as well.

Guessing the announcers were UNC media but

Have to say I thought they called it fairly rather than being homers.
