Any tips for going to ACC tournament in Greensboro?

Looks like I got tickets thru VT and have never gone before. Have the hotel, but wondering what to expect. Is it easy to get rid of tickets for sessions your team doesn't play in? What is parking like and do we have to vacate after each session when on same day? Any recommendations for things to do in Greensboro?

Of course I do! JPJ's been empty the last 2 times we played there, too.

I have bought a block of tickets for myself and friends to the JPJ game since 2020. Couldn't go in 2021 because of COVID, but they played on a Sat in 2020 and way before students were back. We got a bunch of seats where their band normally is that year. Last year was mid week and closer to student return, but still empty. Plenty of lower level seats and it sure did not make the season ticket holders behind us happy to see so many Hokies within rows of court. None of us had to go resale for those seats, either. This year, students should be back and there were no lower levels released when single game sales started at end of November. They only let rows of tickets out in small releases and gradually added more while raising the price over the last month. Tonight, it looks to be almost sold out, but I wouldn't be surprised to see more seats open up later this week. They are definitely playing games with the ticket sales this year, but I think we'll have a good showing regardless. For all the people trying to get tickets to the game on Feb 4 in Blacksburg, their best chance to see the 2 live may be in C'ville. That's my PSA as I've got my tickets for both games again (just not able to help my friends get into the Bburg game at all).

Just bought my 35th ticket for VT @ UVA on Jan 18. Who else is going?

We have a crew going and will be in Section 308 this year. Started with 2 blocks of 16 tix and people have been hitting me up to add more ever since. This is the first year I couldn't get lower level seats from UVA, but they had a bunch of upper levels and it's almost sold out now. I suspect there will be a strong showing from Hokie Nation, especially since you can't buy tickets for the Blacksburg game from VT. I just don't get UVA fans not supporting their own team for these rivalry games. The few that do go get so irritated at the Hokies that show up. Last year, the old men behind us spent the whole game yelling at some kids from VT that got seats up front (and those kids were just cheering for the Hokie players). I saw on the Sabre that they were peeved that the JMU crowd bought a bunch in their upper level earlier this year, too. We sold out ACC games in Blacksburg with season ticket sales alone, so this was about the only shot for my friends that want to see the rivalry this year. Everyone remembers how loud the Cassel was when UVA showed up, so let's make some noise in JPJ and really have some fun...

Section 308 of JPJ Filling Up with Hokies on Jan 18....

I bought a block of 20 seats in rows S and R of 308 for my Hokie friends to go to the VT @ UVA game. This was best available as a group when they went on sale. They just opened up most of row P below us and also have cheaper seats at top row open in that section. Hoping to see a lot more Hokies at that game, so putting it out there. Their fans have been pretty thin for our games in the past, but this one is finally right when their students are back, so should be a sell out. I couldn't get any extra tickets for our home game against them this year, so let's bring all that energy to C'ville...... ** Edited by bgna at 12/11/2022, 12:21:20 PM

UVA Bball tix on sale for C'ville game on Jan 18. Bought a block in 308...

...but they are all almost gone. Won't be able to buy more tix in Bburg, so let's fill up JPJ.

Some tickets aren't released until about 10 days before the game this year.

My season tix were available to transfer early in season for all games, but ones I bought individually over summer for friends aren't released until a little over a week before the game. Frustrating, but I'm guessing they are trying to cut down on people repeatedly sending these around. There is a note about not being available under those, but you can see the seat assignments. Miami freed up last week to transfer. GT tix will likely free up in a couple weeks....

I have a spot in Lot 1 and there was about 1/3 of the row not sold last ...

... year when I picked my spot. I was going to move my spot this year as we have a puddle that forms there, but all those nearby empty spots were almost gone when my turn came. I don't know if people bought them up this year or the school is keeping them to give to players/VIPs that come (we had a lot of former players park near us last year in the empty spaces I was targeting). I also couldn't look after my pick to see if/when the spaces sold out last year, but it was pretty empty during games if they did and they were empty at start of selection this year. We will have to see if we are full in Lot 1 this year, but maybe people stepped up their donations to get in the prime lots and freed up space for the other lots in the process...

Went to championship game tonight and Whitecaps lost the series....

No one was really hitting for Brewster. The first game was a pitcher duel and Bourne shut them out 3-0. Tonight was all Bourne 8-1. I got a yearbook for the Brewster team and Griffin Greene was supposed to be on it as well as Mark McGwire's son. Neither made it to this week if they did play (but I'm guessing Griffin was taking summer off after his injury in regionals flared up). Carson was hit by pitch and got a hit tonight, but the team just couldn't get anything going. Fun league. Lots of talent from all over the country and a real informal setting. Kids everywhere and players stay with local families that makes it very sweet when they all know each other so well by playoffs. Glad we were able to catch some games during our vacation this year.

Yesterday's championship game was cancelled for rain, but met a girl...

...at the entrance who asked if we were from Virginia Tech (we were covered in maroon and orange and had the chairs). We said yes and she said her sister was coming to Blacksburg in a few weeks as a freshman. I told her to have her sister come find us to tailgate and she said her sister was so looking forward to football games. I guess we have a reputation even up in MA for football! We did not go back to Bourne tonight for the rain rematch, but hope to go tomorrow. Sounds like tonight's game is a real pitcher dual (if you look on the Brewster website, you can stream the broadcast). There are some incredibly talented kids up here from all over the country! The Y-D team was full of CA kids, but seeing a lot of ACC and UMD kids on these rosters.

The local story on Carson....

Just got back from watching Carson Dimartini in the Cape Cod League playoff

This is round 2 of the playoffs and the Brewster Whitecaps won the first game 6-3 off Carson's 2 HRs and 4 RBI performance. Today, folks were treating it like a fluke because he only had a couple HRs all season. After a big league pop up to start the game (he was playing SS and lead off batter), he put on a show. 2 more HRs and 2 RBIs to put team ahead before Y-D started catching fire. They ended up walking Carson the last 2 at bats and the rest of his team picked up pace finishing 9-7 and sweeping the Red Sox. Carson was responsible for the winning margin in both games. Looks like they get tomorrow night off and the championship series will start on Wednesday. We were representing Hokie Nation loud and proud. My favorite picture today was this one of Carson on 3rd with the "MLB scouts only" sign pointing at him. Everyone was taking notice of him in these 2 games!

Had all my tickets in my account yesterday, today there's no upcoming ...

... events and my order history goes back to purchase of season tickets in 2019. Anyone else wondering what happened to their tickets? I was just about to start transferring them....

Friend from Ole Miss heard SEC talking to VT & UNC. Hoos are hoping BIG10

takes them and UNC with us going to SEC with NCST. This should get interesting, but my Ole Miss source says it's all about 2 BIG conferences abandoning NCAA and SEC wants UNC and VT. Makes these rumors more likely from that frame of reference, but how it sorts out will be interesting....

BC was our away game trip last year and (except for the game) was great....

...easy flight from DC suburbs, great respect for virus, good food, people reached out to us all over town (including a lot of Hokies that now live up there), and we tailgated with the local Hokie Club (which dismayed the others around us by the size of the tailgate). Transportation was fantastic from flights to the train system that drops you off at campus and sightseeing was great (freedom trail, little Italy, wharfs, Fenway Park, TD Center all were a quick walk or train ride). I'd go back and do that all over in a heart beat. Going to Chapel Hill and Durham aren't even close by comparison....

WTOP DC just reported on it being in discussion. More than rumor....

...friend from Ole Miss came in to say that he heard VT and UNC are talking to SEC now, too. Now that's definitely a rumor.....

Only 2 teams had 50 win seasons (82 & 85) and neither went to regionals ...

...the old Metro conference (mainly FSU at tournament time) was a killer for our post season aspirations, but they sure tried. Having those records in that conference really says something. I'm hoping VT will do something to recognize the 1982 team this year. It's been 40 years and I've been working to get them together for reunions focused on that era. Many are still in baseball, but the GT football game is coming together as a time we may get the most back to Blacksburg. I know they enjoyed watching the 2022 team make a run this year, so lots of buzz about "coming home" this Fall. Go #Hokies

Did a quick check for the VT teams with best final win % ...

Year W-L Final Rank Ranking Org 1982 50-9 9th Baseball America unrank Collegiate Baseball 1981 48-9 20th Baseball America 29th Collegiate Baseball 1969 27-7 12th Collegiate Baseball 1977 34-9 unrank Collegiate Baseball 1976 33-9 19th Collegiate Baseball 2022 45-14 11th D1 1985 50-16 24th Baseball America unrank Collegiate Baseball Don't have time to go back and check them all, but this was definitely one of the highest final rankings in 130 years of VT baseball. I believe there was a preseason poll for 1982 that had VT at #3. Winningest percentage teams in school history were 1981 and 1982, but both did not get to go to regionals because of Metro conference competition and rules for the 1 school that got to go from the conference. Real heart breaker seasons.

The U guy picked VT hammer as his favorite HR celebration and UVA guy...

...immediately tried to claim we stole it from Bronco and the Hoos football. The U guy told him it pained him to pick VT, but he didn't know what UVA guy was talking about. When the UVA guy tried to explain, the guy from the U told him people might know about it if UVA football just won games. Although it made me laugh, these 2 did not really make me want to watch ALL ACC again. It was like reading thesabre.....

Ha! Fixed it. Watching too many games at once. ND barely up...

but not playing ECU, GA Southern down 1-2 in bot 5th. Even TN is struggling against Campbell, but up by 1.

CC wasn't leading. He joined in. Kids to right started it in stands...

...others came down to get on camera and were in aisle. Looks like they aisle folks were told to take a seat.

Are there bathroom destinations for Cage Lot?

We’re tailgating this weekend and don’t recall any porta-johns….

I can help....

I can't find a way to message you, but I got 1 reserved seat above VT dugout for series and can't use for all games as I am coordinating a reunion for baseball players from 1974-1985 this weekend too. We have a tailgate on Friday that I have to set up and host before baseball, so you are welcome to my ticket for those 2 games and likely one or more on Saturday. [email protected] is my email....

They used to resell Season Ticket seats at gate. If in town, I'd go early &

...try for some on Fri or Sun. Sat will be impossible with Zimmerman being honored. Sunday weather is scaring some of them away already and Friday is always weird attendance with season holders...

UVA allows season ticket holders to give tickets back for resale at gate...

...opens up empty seats for others to buy on the day of baseball games. Not sure if they do this for other sports, but I would really prefer if VT allowed us to send back season tickets for students to get into games (especially basketball). I try to give mine away to students I know, but I can't easily screen for students if people I know don't need them. It would help to have a system that verifies who says they are a student. I've caught people that lied and then resold the ticket (at the gate could help prevent that). Anyway, If VT ticket office set up a process for STHs to give excess tickets back to go to students, I would send almost all my extra tix to them....

I just bought the last ticket not GA for Sunday and Sat is sold out ....

...That said, we went to a baseball game at UVA years ago and they resold tickets at the gate for their season holders. We ended up right behind home plate at a sold out VT game. Don't know that they still do that, but you may want to call their ticket office to see.
