Posting History (50)

A Hokie living close to Hooville?!?!

Isn't that kind of like Superman living close to a pile of kryptonite? How many times do you need to soak in a tub of tomato juice before the Hoo-stink goes away when you get back from that place?!?

I'm almost positive I read an article about a coach who did this

in either basketball or football. And the ESPN NBA analyst Wojnarowski took a massive pay cut - $7.3 million to $75K - to be a GM at St. Bonaventure.

The officials decided they didn't need to review the play

where Baker's chin fouled that poor UNC player on the elbow. Their explanation seemed weak to my completely unbiased ears.

I would hope so. One thing that I haven't seen mentioned is

Clemson just came off a 2 game road trip to California, that may have worked in our favor. Plus as GC has pointed out their schedule had been awful soft up until yesterday so they may have been a bit overrated. Not to take anything away from a great - and much-needed - Hokies victory!

I made the mistake of checking this board during the game when Hammond

sat out for a while, was worried he was hurt. Some (most) of the negative posts on this board - even when we are beating the #20 team at their place - are just flat out pathetic. Very difficult for me to believe those folks are really Hokies fans.

Who pissed on your Cheerios this morning? Usually enjoy your posts but

you're doing a pretty good immitation of rat turd or whatever he calls himself today. Turn that frown upside down!

You're not giving these guys enough credit, they are also great

coaching experts. Wish they would identify themselves so we could fire Mike Young immediately and hire them instead, they would truly turn this program around.

CMY's presser was another classic.

Just finished watching it on You Tube, at one point he marveled at the fact that the 5' 3" (his words) Hammond had that critical tip-in. Also managed to mix in 'thinner than a nickel soup" comment describing his lineup options, first time I've ever heard that one. When asked about the free throw discrepancy he said "I thought they were all good calls" and couldn't help but smirk a bit. And finishing it up with "WE. ARE. VIRGINIA. TECH". Seems to always have a good rapport with the media. ** Edited by amazng_grace at 1/1/2026, 10:29:07 AM ** Edited by amazng_grace at 1/1/2026, 10:43:54 AM

It was good to see Evan Hughes at the announcers table.

I thought he was great, as usual. He seemed to have the knack back when he was hosting the TSL podcast.

Seems odd to me the ACC is not a "participating conference"?

"The tournament will feature schools from the Big Ten, Big 12 and Big East Conference, in addition to at-large participants. Two automatic qualifiers will come from each participating conference, and additional teams will be chosen by a select committee."

10-12? CMY coached the team to 16 wins in his first year

with significantly less talent (thanks in no small part to Brent). Starting center was 6' 6", leading scorer from the previous year averaged around 4 points. I'd set the floor there.

The Athletic ACC rankings article

They picked Tech 15th. I guess these are probably obvious stats given the amount of turnover we had, but still pretty sobering: 3rd to last in ACC in D1 minutes played 3rd to last in top 8 players returning 5th to last in career 3 pointers made Mike Young has his work cut out for him this season, but I am hopeful he is up to the task. Seems like a great person and coach to me.

They are such a different team at home than they are away...

Despite the lack of 'athletic' players and a coach that needs to be canned according to some keyboard warriors.

Last play of the half said it all, kick it out to a guy who is shooting 23%

from the 3 point line. Yeah, that's a recipe for success. Tough game to watch on both ends ,of the court for sure.

That's what I meant by 'and yet here we are'. Very poorly worded post by

me. Guess that is why I am typically a 'lurker' on the board and NEVER post on game day!

That's what I said, 2nd most shots on the team.

I guess I came across as complaining or ragging on Collins, that wasn't my intention. I love his hustle and quickness. Just making an observation. Although I do think 6 3-pointers were a bit excessive, he just hasn't shown much proof he can hit those at an acceptable rate at this stage of his career.

I thought we were in for a beating, that their big guy would

have his way with us. Then when the game started and I saw the way it was being called I felt even more pessimistic. Was VERY glad to be proven wrong!

What a game. 20 turnovers. MJ Collins takes 2nd most shots and makes 3

of them. Refs so obviously biased it was't even questionable. And we won. Go Hokies!

That was around 1992,

Jack Kent Cooke thought he had a deal in place after DC played hardball with him, then the Old Town Alexandria elitists pulled a big NIMBY move and vetoed the deal, "too much traffic". Then a couple of years later they built approximately 1,000,000 townhouses in the same area. Brilliant! Worst of all, that let JKC to build the dump that is now the home of the Commodores/WTF in a horrible area (I grew up around there) that he renamed 'RalJon' after his sons Ralph and John. Oh, and there was an article today on the WTOP site quoting the Metro GM as saying the Metro station at Potomac Yards can't handle the type of crowds that the Caps and Bullets (yes, I said 'Bullets') would bring. And they may shut the station down due to budget shortfalls! You couldn't make this stuff up.

They spent all their money on hookers a few years back...

Oops, that was some rogue graduate assistant. Because GAs have a ton of spare money to dole out for hookers...

Felt the same way watching the game

Seemed like we were on a roll offensively until he made those substitutions. And I too would like to see more TOs when it seems like the 'mojo' has been reversed. Having said that, CMY is my guy and his pinky knows more about basketball than my big old wet brain.

Not a softball expert by any means but announcers seemed to think

it was because 1st and 3rd umps typically make that call, not 2nd base ump. Of course, they are same announcers who have stated several times every pitch Emma makes is illegal.
