That was incredibly fun to watch (still is), but have to keep in mind
That team...which was actually capable of winning the ACCT through UNC / Duke back-to-back...was not going to get into the NCAAT due to a Jan / early-Feb slump and injury. They then got waxed in NCAAT rnd 1. All that seems like important context to along with the, "but won the ACCT".
Slumps (or late let downs) seem to be a part of VT teams the past few years. I'm not sure that's a player issue.
Really like CMY, and I think most do, and would love to see him succeed!

This is big part of it, and seems overlooked.
Drones has weaknesses, but it doesn't help that he's got to roll out all the time (or by design) and reset or throw on the run. When he stays in the pocket, he's got like 2 secs.
Doesn't seem like any QB's going to do great there.

A bit suspicious...?
There's no way any objective observer would've over-ruled the VT TD catch at UM. Question the original call on the field of course, sure. But the video review is "...convincing beyond all doubt that the ruling on the field was incorrect"...? It's not even close or subjective whether or not the call on the field should've been overturned. It obviously should not have been. It's absurd. : )~
The no-targeting call last night was just about equally absurd. They default to a targeting call much more frequently than not when it's iffy. And last night wasn't even iffy...almost textbook targeting...crown, head/neck, launch. Totally absurd. : )~
It seems obvious now there's some kind of agenda in play with the officiating, and that's the first time I've really thought that in 30 years. Not saying it's massive, but it's there.
A strong/visible formal complaint and follow-up from VT and/or Cal would be helpful. Without that, and let this kind of stuff start slipping...yikes.
p.s. I hope someone...or several someones...beats the brakes off UM at this point. Esp after watching that dude celebrate a nasty targeting hit like it was some kind of good play...

Machiavellian take, but...
If WB is more hands-off Pry's hires, than failure's on Pry not WB. But if the team succeeds, hey WB hired Pry...regardless of why the team succeeds.
Might be a bit much.
I wonder how hands-on he's been with hires by other coaches? If he's consistent, well than at least he's consistent.

At least that's validation that we're not all nuts
Impartial folks see the same issues. That's prob a good thing.

SW Va was never full of shrinking violets
Historically... definitely kind, but never soft. : )
These were always tough folks. But being an a**hole was never part of the culture...family / neighbors were super important. 8 - 12 hours at the plant or on the railroad, then 2 in the garden, then chill on the porch having a blast with the fam because it was too hot to sleep, and not a lot of complaining.
FB was a great rep of that, and almost perfectly aligned the friendly but tough regional culture with the football program. And BF was his alter ego. Well-defined, focused leadership.
Fuente didn't snap into that, and the program didn't evolve the culture as the landscape changed and it ended up a little schizoid. I'm not sure the program is particularly clear which way it wants to go now or what its culture is, but I'd say nearly for sure we have dept-level / program-level issues now, i.e. it's not just some player issue.
The "mgt staff" seems to need to get their house in order, get rid of any deadwood, and get their sh*t straightened out, just like any company any of us have worked for. : )~ I'd say if Pry can get through a learning phase, get tired of the L's and say "well that's enough of that, enough Mr Nice Guy", get his own focused leadership going and brook no BS about it, then it may work out...he's a great fit for the school on many other levels. I'd love to see it.

Prob worth keeping in mind Rice's departure
Before too many pitchforks skewer MY.
As late as October, Rice was still part of the strategery and construction of this team. That late in the year. Hardly any time to adjust to him leaving, and probably a significantly different team if he was playing. Couple close L's are possibly W's...FSU, UM...etc etc.
Leaving when he did hosed this team to some degree...a lot or a whole lot, who knows. Cheers!

Would or could?
Would they? Dunno. Could they? Sure they could.
That's the problem with this kind of subjective approach. Everyone loves a cindarella in the NCAAT. No way they could beat team X and Y, until they do and advance.
W/L's should matter, not subjectivity. No one actually has any idea whether FSU would beat Alabama or vice versa.

Lucky 4th down hail mary...like 1 week ago
And that was with their QB1.
I mean if we're gonna get subjective, let's get subjective. Seems to be more of that working against Alabama than FSU.
FSU basically got hosed, and the implications kind of suck. Ya won all your games, regardless of circumstance? And...?
Committee screwed up on this one methinks (along with everyone else).

I think FSU is in
FSU found a way to win at Fla. They then found a way to win in a conf champ game against #14. With a third-string true-fresh QB.
That says something. The FSU defense held Lewis-ville to a fraction of their season average total yards and YPC. They held them to something like 30% of their averages.
There's some intangibles about them there that I don't think will be missed. I think they're in.
Wash and Michigan are in. Undefeated conf champs. So it comes down to Bama / Tejas, and only one of those beat the other.
Wash, Mich, Tejas, FSU. I give the committee more credit for having brains perhaps than other folks do. Cheers. : )
