Posting History (23)

I don’t see it…We did well recruiting and in the portal, but almost all

of that is young inexperienced talent…It’s going to take a season for those OL and DL to grow. Also, I hope our evaluation on the transfer prospects in the secondary is really good because I dont see the talent in the program currently to field a top tier defense. We were really really bad defensively this year. On top of that, our schedule is really rough in the away games. 8 wins and a potential Top 25 season would be really good this year given that we won 3 games this past season. If you’re expecting more, you are setting yourself up for disappointment.

Question on linebacker and secondary

I haven’t been following recruiting closely and honestly missed watching a lot of this last season for various reasons. How is the current talent level at linebacker and secondary on the team? Seem to have been building at all of the other positions through the portal, but not a ton going on here. Obviously there’s still time in the portal window to bring some guys in.

The question is why not start Hammond with those two…not in place

Plenty of lineups with those three in the game at the same time…hence my original question in this thread. I’m sure Mike Young’s answer would be because of the injuries, we are just limited on minutes as a whole…but he’s been doing this the entire season.

Meh. I know you’re an analytics junkie, but momentum matters

And isn’t something that even advanced analytics could realistically capture. Obviously there’s no way to definitely say, but we played behind almost the entire game because Wake Forest jumped on us from the start. If we jump on them, think that game plays out very differently…overall, I think we were the better team.

Any metrics gurus able to post the differential of Hammond vs Neo at point?

Understand Mike Young is likely in a bind given whatever promises were made to Neo…but the “eye test” says we are a completely different team both offensively (and defensively) with Hammond on the floor running the offense. The insistence on bringing Hammond off the bench seems to be backfiring big time and likely cost us the game yesterday. I also understand there’s an argument to be made that Hammond is playing well because he’s coming off the bench…but I don’t really buy that. Curious what the metrics say.

Agree we don’t want UVA being the face of ACC football.

Good thing Miami is right now. Not sure what your post has to do with me saying we need to be rooting for UVA against Mizzou in the Gator Bowl.

Because the ACC has to change the narrative against the SEC (and B1G)

Or else VT football is going to be relegated to the equivalent of Division II football for the long haul. Anybody with a clue knows these bowl games are meaningless now with opt-outs and the playoffs. But the marketing machine will point to the bowl records as a data point on why the SEC is so much better than everybody else….which will lead to them bargaining for more guaranteed playoff teams…which will lead to more money for them (and less for the ACC)…and the cycle continues. The ACC is not going to last long-term as a conference without some miracle. But we need it to stay relevant for as long as humanly possible while VT tries to right the ship. The quicker the decline of the ACC, the worse things likely are for VT. You should absolutely be rooting against the SEC and the B1G as much as humanly possible.

Except Kiffen has underachieved at Tier 1 schools in the past.

People seem to forget that. I think he’s a really good coach, but his results as a head coach aren’t as good as Franklin historically. I’d say Vandy is a much harder place to win at than Ole Miss. USC is at least on par with PSU. It’s all a crapshoot.

These posts are dumb. Fuente did plenty player/community outreach.

He obviously wasn’t the person for the job, but there’s a lot of revisionist history already and it hasn’t even been 6 months since he left. Dude was a good guy who couldn’t get the job done on the field. Time to move on.
