Exciting things going on inside the gym and offices! Glad all the news is coming out and everyone is getting fired up for this season! Lot of work to be done before the season starts but it’s been a great few weeks. Keep following the squad and being great fans and supporting all the girls! Don’t jump to conclusions when videos get removed 😆 sometimes things take time! Blacksburg is an amazing place and players are realizing how much they are cared about and respected in the community! Great fans help recruiting more than you know. NIL is a piece BUT IT AINT THE ONLY PIECE and if you can play and buy in to the WORK, THE REAL WORK…the money will work itself out. LOCK IN AND LETS GET TO IT!! SEE EVERYONE SOON IN A CASSELL SEAT

Had a great visit. Went to school near Hidalgo out of high school and is a good friend of hers so it was always going to be a close choice for either them or us. She took a good while to make her decision bc it was a tough one for her. It could have gone either way One thing I’ll say is that our “yall and me” roster building ideas aren’t the exact same as the staff and they know what they want and who will be playing position wise. Few here are somewhat accurate and some are not even close 😆 and like every season many won’t agree 😆 The fun of the page!! Anyhow enjoy the summer and buckle up. I got one more year and I’ll be there in town often enjoying the ride!!

I tweeted about Kamora Johnson also but never have stated we got someone until the kids post or staff. All I’ve said is be patient. It’s not my place to say anything about who is or who isn’t until the staff does or a player posts.

My opinion: it’s the connections and alumni from the school which your degree (masters) can get you. The relationships and connections will carry much more weight and longer than the degree for the field. If you market yourself and are the right type of person that can attract and build the relationships, then the alumni and connections from the schools truly matter! VT is all over the world and so are others but HOKIES for a lifetime is great to have in your RESUME

I don’t think we are in a rush like some teams that have lost complete rosters BUT I know there is URGENCY with thoroughness and coaches are doing their meetings and working to fill the voids they see fit. Making calls and staying 100% in it. Coach Duffy is locked in and knows exactly what she wants to do and how she wants to do it. Trust that they are doing it and working to get the right pieces. Everyone wants answers now but I’d prefer the rights pieces and not just pieces. Duffy knows what she wants and works non stop. Salute to Coach for her CONSTANT work and no days off attitude when it comes to her work and her coaches. Trust her leadership and be ready when we know! It’ll all be good! Be patient and it’ll come and everyone im sure will be happy. Who knows some will think we will win the conference and some will say we won’t win a game 😆 regardless who we sign the board will have people on both sides BUT it’s SENIOR YEAR around here and WE WINNING GAMES! 😉

Both would be able to touch paint and spray out. Elite at both getting to the lane off the dribble and willing passers. If you face guard one the other gets open looks and if you help off the pass out will lead to wide open looks with slow closeouts. In our system those two would be lethal together. And both will be able to lock up defensively! Not to mention they have a great relationship. We shall see 👀

We have money and it’s being used but regardless if you offer someone a million they may still feel they are worth more. Everyone’s value is going to be seen differently and at some point as a business you have to make a decision to move on if it depends on money alone. Some are leaving for different roles wanted and I’m sure some see their value more than it’s valued in certain areas or money. But to say Whit don’t give money for the program is untrue. I’m not defending Whit either I’m just stating that not having money isn’t the reason

You never know if what’s on paper is good, better or the same until we get rolling. But I know there’s NIL and a staff that works their ass off. Every team is losing kids and it has nothing to do with many things ppl think it does. Clemson just lost their 5 star a few minutes ago and Tennessee just had their top recruit ask out also. It’s wild times but we will be fine. We WILL sign some studs.

Money ain’t everything and lot of kids don’t understand until they in it. Also what youre told in recruiting don’t ALWAYS add up once you arrive. Sometimes these kids will be recruited so they don’t sign and play against the coach recruiting them. Sounds wild but it’s facts. 😉 We went for pro development and competition increase mainly. But the schemes and usage he was told wasn’t what happened and a terrible locker room ruined many days. Most kids won’t play after college and a senior year means a lot when the environment loves you and your locker room isn’t poison. I want what’s best for every kid but it won’t end that way and VT is a great spot and many know. We have head coaches on our staff and we have coaches connected to the pro levels and development for everyone looking for next level. Which if you play at this level you wanna keep playing and we have facilities and staff and connections. Not a to mention a great strength coach that loves his job and gets their bodies right and able to handle the kicking we took literally in some physical games. LGH

My son transferred and finished his senior season at a Power team and was compensated for his skill. Was sold all the right things in meetings etc and I was involved with all NIL conversations. He hit shots to beat Arkansas and Baylor at Baylor at the buzzer. Pretty awesome game(s) and it was the worst season he could be involved in during his senior season. Not all money is good money and you definitely need good advice when navigating this space. I pray everyone gets what they are looking for and they increase their skill levels while playing the game they love. Now everyone can breathe and gear up for who’s going to end up rolling into town. All roads lead to Blacksburg and it’s going to be a great fun ride!

Yea it sucks BUT too many is a stretch considering the others didn’t play and their minutes wouldn’t increase next year. Some are moving on for bigger roles elsewhere and some hopefully find what they are looking for. Duffy will sign leading pieces and continue to raise the bar.

Changes across coaching and players everywhere always happen at this exact time and with the shape of NIL world it’s only going to be crazier. All I speak on factually is Carleigh and our perspective on VT and support all our players. Mac and Carleigh will be great friends for life regardless what individuals decide is best for them. Mens side is even crazier. I’ve been involved on both sides before and during new NIL world

Keep your seatbelt fastened at all times with arms and legs inside this train as it’s moving. Deep breathe folks as we are almost through it and soon the off season will begin for all teams, coaches and new coaches across the country. Players and coaches will get settled in. Keep your head up

So dead period begins Monday therefore don’t get overly excited when you don’t hear any news about new additions. Every position has a different value and within that value as the individual players comes work ethic, character, personality etc. it’s not as simple as a shooter that won’t miss or a defender that won’t be scored on. Lot of things happen in between what you see in games from halftime, practices (before and after) as well as during the week. Everyone only sees 4 hrs of game time so keep that in mind also when you want to a team bring in certain players or certain ones leave any program for that matter. And again post players are paid higher than anyone most likely bc they are unicorns if they can play a little. Some players leave for better fit or opportunity. This era has players getting recruited all year long and players recruit players. Hoopers want to play with hoopers so keep that in mind as well. I will tell you that winning also helps there are players taking note of what we have been doing 😉 and I truly believe when it’s all said and done we will be looking good. Vt is a place people want to play and Duffy cares about her players probably more than any coach. She cares about them as people and VT is lucky to have her. Nobody has to agree with her everyday and as a player you don’t have to like it all the time. It’s ok to agree to disagree. One thing in our decision making was that I know if ever a time Carleigh can’t get back to us in Texas , she can roll into Blacksburg and the ppl will make sure she is safe and will be there with open arms and help here!! People matter even the trolls in this app 😜 Don’t get overly excited or down until all the dust settles and we have a completed roster. There are players we are discussing that some of you would pass out if they come and yall would have us ranked as national champions 😆 Carleigh has been working since the season ended and credit your head coach bc that lady hasn’t stopped since the last whistle and she has been grinding!! Duffy is ultra competitive and CARES. Just a long message to say thanks to those that matter an the trolls bc Carleigh is home in Blacksburg and the season will be a great one again. The experts here aren’t exactly accurate and I could go on and on and explain but it’s more fun seeing the opinions 😉 Lathum is an amazing kid and will be a skill set we haven’t seen exactly and will help tremendously I believe. And let the kid Sears breathe before you think she will save the planet. She will need time to adjust to the ACC and it’s not an overnight thing regardless of high school rank or what you watched on highlights against who she was playing. Also coming back from a surgery. Just give her grace and less expectations. She is one of the towns hardest workers so that’ll shorten the learning curve. And her support system (parents) are phenomenal people. Until next time. Gotta be TOUGH and willing to GRIND. First one in and last one out mentality. Must be a worker if you wanna play in Duffy system and you must buy in. All good traits for the system and for your life after hoops.

Biggest difference yesterday was Oregon ran simple actions and kept the floor spaced. Out of those actions was open areas to work and get many uncontested looks. We ran multiple actions with crowded half court which led to many many contested shots. Efficiency goes up with open looks and rather quickly. We had to work really hard this year for our looks. Much easier to counter at the rim with room to pivot and move and play off two which helps players slow themselves down. We struggled with that as well because there wasn’t time or room for us to counter bc it was crowded with our own ppl and defenders. A Big that can slide to short corners and move out the way on drives will help as well as players staying in corners and not diving when a ball handler is driving. When Fiso played out of ball screens the mid range area was much more open then when we played out of pick n roll. Also goes hand in hand how we are guarded vs how we guard the pick n roll (as mentioned by others) As for Carleigh , nobody in the conference can stay in front of her in half court yet majority of her shots were contested bc of spacing. And when she drives and they help she can kick BUT many times those positions were cutting into her area and not waiting or being ready for the kick. We have work to do defensively as well and a lot of that can improve with effort and “want to” as well as learning and understanding defensive angles and not jumping with ever hesi / head fake. Can’t have mental lapses on either side of the ball. Everyone must know their positions on all plays called and not “forget” or we should do what Oregon did again and play with simple slips, ghost screens, ball screens and wide spacing. SIMPLE WORKS! A BIG, SPACING AND BEING ABLE TO GUARD THE POSITION(s) you play or want to play as well as KNOWING personnel every game. So many small things can make big differences both ways good or bad. Salute to the athletes juggling this schedule with classes, ongoing daily injuries, and the mental side of P4 hoops. It ain’t easy!! How we adjust to all of it and how it all plays out will be interesting to see. Was a good year in my opinion BUT we have a lot of work to do in my opinion as well and I’m sure the team will be up for the challenge and I’m sure the coaches are already working their tails off to figure out the plan…..

I can tell yall that the morning after we lost and girls flew out, ALL our coaches flew out to WORK 👀

Our defense is in top form in that first half. Maintain that intensity and get going on the other end even more. The girls know what this game means just gotta put together 4 qtrs! 2 qtrs ✅ against officials along the way

I’ve got a picture of a golf ball hematoma she got on a no call drive to basket. Played through it. The ACC is a tough conference for all the girls

I’ll relay it so that we get her to back off a little offensively. Noted If I knew how to post photos I could educate many on most of her missed layups this year. Photos are ugly. The girls don’t wear the arm sleeves and leg sleeves for fashion. She gets many calls bc she puts defensive on hills trying to guard her. You wouldn’t believe all the calls she doesn’t get but the pictures don’t lie

One of the strongest Conferences and it’s a gauntlet. Take this long road trip and come back somewhat healthy is a win!!! Get some rest and gear up for the next one!!!

Just make the calls on both ends. Can’t even come off a screen without getting smacked but then they get touch fouls. Counts are even but they definitely trying to bully us and push us as we don’t get the calls. Here’s to a better second half! 🫡 Suffren bc she went to WORK!!! 👏

We’ve been running that both ways all season but we have struggled getting some of the passes to which ever one is coming off the screens. Love having Carleigh setting the screens for Carys and vice versa. Pick your poison. Hope to see stronger and more screens setting as we go along

Lot of little things to clean up and I’m sure everyone will be locked in this week.

I could criticize it and break it all down but no need for it here. We will work to fix areas. Need to screen better and get through our progressions. Ball needs to see the third side of the floor more often and shift the defense. Car can help with that but her aggressive scoring can’t stop and it won’t. She went out and we were down two and then tied with two free throws. Came back in and down 10 mainly bc she makes the other team play differently and have to guard us much harder.

One thing this board shows is that people are watching and it’s appreciated. Lots to improve on and we could go on and on. Still lot of games to get us in position for the tournament and the girls will keep grinding and working their tails off. Stork you have yourself a positive Sunday and find something that makes you smile.

Our areas of opportunity and have those talks everyday. If you knew half the **** going on that you comment and talk about … nevermind. This board will always be for anyone and mainly the ones that know the least. She will keep working and leading and watch you get quite on the wins 😆

You aren’t going to bring in anyone better than them until they are gone. They are two of the best players in the conference, hell many conferences. Mistakes are made and we need maybe a little depth in areas but Kenny recruits aren’t Kenny’s anymore and are the face of VT. Coach definitely isn’t sitting around not working on improving all areas and going after talent. Hang in there and enjoy the ride and keep supporting as the girls need it.

When they went Triangle and 2 against two of our girls we didn’t make crisp reads. There were spots and things open that we didn’t recognize and didn’t hold strong onto the ball BUT good game to learn as we close the season and head into the tournament. We needed this game in the road. Stay locked in and enjoy the ride bc we are far from done 😉
