One example

Vanderbilt football is projected to be improved in 2025, potentially their best team in a decade, but still facing a challenging SEC schedule. Several sports publications and podcasts predict a win total around 4.5-5 wins, with some suggesting a push for a winning record with key upsets. The team returns key players, including quarterback Diego Pavia, and has improved in the transfer portal, but will need to overcome a tough SEC slate. Here's a more detailed breakdown: Offense: Diego Pavia: Returns as quarterback after a legal victory that allowed him to bypass the NCAA's eligibility clock. Offensive Line: Improved with the addition of four new starters via the transfer portal, but still projected as a bottom-tier SEC unit. Eli Stowers: Returns as a top weapon at tight end. Other Receivers: Junior Sherrill is solid, and former New Mexico State receiver Trent Hudson is expected to contribute. Running Backs: Sedrick Alexander leads the backfield, which needs to improve its run blocking. Defense: Defensive Coordinator Change: Clark Lea relinquishes coordinator duties, promoting Steve Gregory. Defensive Line: Deep and experienced, with a focus on run stopping. Linebackers: Nick Rinaldi and Bryce Cowan are key third-down options. Cornerbacks: Deepest in years. Safeties: Two veteran starters need to be replaced. Schedule and Expectations: Challenging SEC Slate: Vanderbilt faces tough opponents, including potential upsets against Auburn and Kentucky at home. Bowl Game Hopes: The team aims for consecutive bowl games, a feat not achieved since 2012-2013. Home Games: Georgia State, Charleston Southern, Utah State, Auburn, Kentucky, Missouri, and LSU are home games. Away Games: Virginia Tech, Alabama, and Kentucky. Key to Success: Improved third-down defense and consistent pressure on opposing quarterbacks. ** Edited by MaryWashGrad at 8/5/2025, 10:18:48 PM

Having SC and an improving Vandy doesn't make for an easy start.

I can see Tech hanging with South Carolina for a half and then slipping. They are saying this may be a better Vandy team than last year so that will also be a difficult game....

Hell at the moment I'd be happy if they actually played like a top 50 team

There were too many prolonged moments last year when they looked lost on O and D. Especially in crunch time ... ** Edited by MaryWashGrad at 5/13/2025, 9:18:44 PM ** Edited by MaryWashGrad at 5/13/2025, 9:19:12 PM ** Edited by MaryWashGrad at 5/14/2025, 4:47:47 AM

Most likely .... Not really expecting a win

Just hope the team comes across as well coached and competent TBH

2 things I am pretty sure of .....

Most fans will overestimate the ceiling in the preseason. Most fans will overestimate the floor after the SC game. This is the Hokie way ....

Yeah at the moment I'm thinking 4 or 5 wins ... 6+ would be a surprise

Back to back SEC start will be tough.... And the run of Louisville, @ Florida State, and Miami towards end of the year will be difficult. I don't really see a favorable away game until the last game @ Virginia. @ NC State probably a 50/50 toss up ... Maybe I'm over factoring in the fact Pry has trouble winning close games but until that trend changes it seems as if 6 wins is almost the high mark.

Anyone who is not satisfied with the coaching this year is blind

He has done a great job with this group. On paper there is no way they should be mid pack in the ACC even in a down year for the league.

Jordon Davis @ N. Texas is a good up and comer.

However I believe most, if not all, of his experience is in the state of Texas.... He's from Texas. He probably wants to stay in that area ... ** Edited by MaryWashGrad at 2/5/2025, 5:17:52 PM

Because Washington didn't turn it over last week....

Philly is a better team. However Washington had a chance if they played mistake free game. They didn't..... Refs were ok ... A couple of questionable calls for both teams really... Main thing was Washington D broke instead of bend and TOs ... Still a really good season for Washington... No worries

Yes! I'm content about this successful season

Would I love to see them in the Super Bowl? Obviously!! Do I expect a win today @ Philly? Extremely doubt it ... They have already overachieved by miles. Philly is built to win Super Bowls while Washington is not ... I'll be rooting for a small miracle but I'm realistic when it comes to this game today. I do like the fact the Commanders have cap space and can improve over the off-season. Hopefully they make a few more right moves and develop into a consistent contender.

The lack of a decision probably came from losing out on top choices

Maybe this works out for the best, but I'm sure most fans will find the hire underwhelming. I do agree that regardless of who is on the staff this year is critical for Pry ... ** Edited by MaryWashGrad at 1/23/2025, 6:56:29 PM

I'm guessing the search didn't go well ...

Totally guessing but it seems like Pry probably didn't get his first couple of choices ...

Yeah... I believe ND is going to find it rough going now

No way they can keep asking that QB to keep running right into the line like that

He needs to start getting better results...

Not being able to win close games is concerning.... I like Pry. I want him to succeed at Tech. However, needs to make the next step next year ....

Horns hooked themselves on that one

1st & goal from 1 late in the 4th and somehow gave up a TD

Looks like the playoffs worked in Year 1

I mean under the old format we would have had Oregon, Georgia, Texas and Penn St .... Both ND and Ohio State would have been left out

Interesting game ... Don't believe either team is truly dominant

Penn St has a really good run game that can control a game. Add that to their D and they are a difficult team to beat ....

Most likely......

I don't see him getting fired for that unfortunately.... However at the moment, not really seeing 6 wins on the schedule... I would say 4-8 if I had to make a prediction today ** Edited by MaryWashGrad at 1/5/2025, 7:45:44 PM ** Edited by MaryWashGrad at 1/5/2025, 7:49:14 PM

TBH impressed with the D holding them to 17

I still don't think Boise has enough on offense to keep up but they are battling...

Three good and enjoyable football games this afternoon ...

I included noon game because I enjoyed seeing Bama lose .... Hope the playoff game tonight follows the script and is a good one ** Edited by MaryWashGrad at 12/31/2024, 5:56:00 PM

Absolutely terrible coaching.... No excuse

Run the clock, make them burn time outs, then get either a TD or FG with like 30 seconds left
