I get it. You canβt be dropping consecutive home games to teams who travel
in from the west coast. Conference games no less.
Men's Basketball Board

Me either. But looking at the comments, youβd think we lost by 30.
To be fair, though, these games can be really frustrating to watch in real time, which is why I went to Home Depot.

Iβm skeptical, but I donβt have a say in the matter! Thereβs home though!
Our talent deficit was pretty obvious to me. And guys looked nowhere near their listed heights/weights. At least all that should change for the better.

The literally only reason I might watch this game is to see how blatant the
calls favor one team. The fact its ratings will be less than Hoganβs Heroes reruns means they think theyβll get away with it. Still, Iβll just read about it on Twitter tomorrow!

Reasons to watch the ACC CG: #1 Blatantly biased officiating towards UVA
Thatβs the only reason. OK, thatβs the only reason. Let this crap conference eat itself.
Football Board

It also kept some good players on your bench rather than playing for some
other team in your conference and against you.

I think we could shake the snow globe and find someone at least as good
at every single position. Even the kicker. The whole roster is three star guys with an occasional low four star. All replaceable, likely with someone better, but definitely at least as good.
Football Board

There are 0 players on this team who canβt be replaced by somebody at least
as good. We have some guys with skill and potential, but no βspecialβ players.

Itβs easy to get emotional and want to cut all the players and fire all the
coaches. But thatβs actually going to happen this time.

More of just a strategy on our end to try to run up the score and hope they
simply score less. Not how the usual MY teams are built.

I donβt understand basketball well enough to say.
Iβm sure that GC34 guy has answers, probably with a lot of other condescending stuff to say.
But I was concerned in the first games when scores were getting up in the 90s. Thatβs a dangerous pace for a MY team to sustain. At some point, you have to play some defense.

I like MY and he was a good value hire. No drama, sincere guy. No big
demands, shady activity, or constantly looking for his next job. But he is what he is at this point. Weβre a mid major level program who caught lightning in a bottle once (ACC tournament) and probably wonβt again in his tenure. He is 1-7 in the NCAA tournament BTW. Focus on football and let Mike retire into some kush AD position.

After all that talk, this team went to the Bahamas nowhere near tournament
ready. Even the announcers were commenting on our lack of defensive effort.

College sports are truly like minor-league baseball.
From Blacksburg to wherever the hell Utah state is. Toledo mudhens are next.

Or Kenny > current coach. No knock on her. I do wonder if the new AD
culture would have led to keeping Kenny.

Louisville looked good in their game last night.
Would have won be more, but they missed 7/8 FTs (7 in a row) at the end. Kentucky just couldnβt capitalize.
I donβt know their measurables, but they also looked like a big team.

Assists
Much postgame content (quotes, video) indicates players value this role. IDK much about the insides of BB, but it seems like that would be a good sign of a team culture.

Me too, but Iβll believe we can draw and support a top tier coach when I
see it. Much competition in this market this cycle. No evidence anyone at VT, despite the financial commitment, knows how to navigate this. Itβs equally likely Whit (who is still involved for some reason) trots out the Ottawa Roughriders tight ends coach and says he was our guy all along.

For the life of me, I canβt figure out why this isnβt a bigger story,
at least on ESPN. Yet another reason I wonder whether itβs a major conflict of interest for the source of the money (networks via advertising) to be involved in the gambling industry. Stories like this just scratch the surface and probably involve more layers than we think, although thatβs just speculation on my part.

Please do a write up after the exhibition. Most nobody else will see it
unless they are in the building. So many unknowns with a whole new roster, down to even who plays where position-wise. I wonder if Mike is still in trial and error mode with that.

Itβs a series on our potential successor
Itβs been hard for me to get too interested because last time, after all the speculation and anticipation, we ended up with a total nobody. Even though the university threw a lot of money at the problem this time out, they have not demonstrated any greater degree of competence.
That said, the subscription is well worth 12 bucks a month.

I'll honestly believe it when I see it that we get someone good who wins.
This athletic department has just been one fail after the other for football for a decade and a half. The last time, after much eager anticipation, they trot out a guy nobody had ever even heard of and you see how that worked out. His predecessor was wholly unsupported. I guess the fact they hired him was good, but we squandered his skills IMO. Had he won, we would have thought of him as an old-school, hard-nosed ball coach, rather than the bottle crunching sour pus we remember.
This go round it's been mixed messaging, followed by NDAs, then leaks e.g. involving Shane, and all the while, Babcock remains under our employ. All this creates legitimate concerns that we are just throwing good money after bad and that we end up with some no name or retread. At this point, I have to see it work to believe it.

That was seriously funny.
Ignore the critics. This season is so devoid of joy and (the hire of) Pry set this program back a great deal, so we deserve to vent with sarcasm and humor.

And has improved exactly zero in 3+ years in that regard. Regressed even.
He is way more effective as a runner, but for reasons that are furlongs beyond my understanding, VT tries to use him as a pocket passer. We also paid this guy so much we had to nearly disband the menβs basketball team.

Iβm guessing we go into the bye with 2-3 wins: Wofford, maybe ODU, maybe WF
GT will shellack us and that should do it. Theyβd have to, or heβd find a way to lose the bye week. I thought they shouldβve canned him after last season, especially when you saw how much talent the SEC and NFL thought we had.
