HVAC for the Indoor Practice Facility

Does anyone have any idea when the heating and cooling for the Indoor Practice Facility will be done?

Abysmal Effort

Worst Defensive Effort I’ve seen out of a VT team in awhile including last year. On offense as well. Everyone outside of Schutt and Hansberry should be embarrassed

Never gonna happen and shouldn’t happen

He seemed like a mediocre defensive playcaller when he was doing that here. Not a trainwreck but was nothing special or innovative. He had his hands heavily on the defense during his tenure it was pretty rough at times especially, against the run. Never could get linebacker (his apparent specialty) right which caused most of the issues against the run. Nothing close to redeeming enough about his tenure here to have any P4 team consider him as a DC candidate. Also not to mention it would be horrible for the culture to hire a guy who the team literally gave up on and got fired 3 games into the season back to be the 2nd or 3rd most important coach on the staff. People please stop suggesting this it’s objectively not a good idea.

We literally don’t have a recruiting class

While it’s still early, the average ACC recruiting class size is 12. We currently have 2 recruits which is the smallest by far in the conference. I understand we likely won’t have a large class this cycle but dang that is definitely concerning.

Concerned about Pry on the Field but his talent acquisition is solid

The straight up 247 recruiting class rankings are incredibly flawed because way too much of the ranking goes into class size than quality of recruit. If you actually look at average rating of players we are signing it shows a different story. Here a look at how talent our class is compared to our peers and nationally. Average composite rating of recruit by year 2021: ACC - 11th NAT: 48th 2022: ACC - 6th NAT: 44th 2023: ACC - 8th NAT: 45th 2024: ACC - 4th NAT 27th 2025: ACC - 5th NAT: 35th 2026: ACC - 4th NAT: 23th (so far but its way too early) Portal wise the 247 transfer portal rankings are so horrifically bad and lazy you have to completely ignore them. They have our 2 time All-Big 12 guard rated the same as our other 3 star O-Linemen (Gavin Crawford) who have never taken an FBS snap. ON3 actually seems to properly try and properly rank the portal classes. Our recent national ranks are 2023: 14th 2024: 24th 2025: 24th Also just have 5 guys drafted and 14 in total invited to Rookie Minicamps on top of this. Overall, if you dig a bit deeper than flawed 247 recruiting rankings Pry is definitely improving the talent level out here. No he’s not some generational recruiter but if we want it to keep getting better (or stay consistent) it’s time for him to produce results. ** Edited by Jhanks98 at 5/14/2025, 5:13:30 PM

The guys Pry originally hired were terrible

Seeing all our guys killing it at the combine and getting paid at SEC schools just shows how truly terrible our coaching staff was. Sad we wasted it. Significantly upgraded both coordinator positions and O-Line coach a year too late.

Josh Pate on Christian Taylor

On one of his shows over the Summer, Josh Pate actually shouted out Christian Taylor for the stuff he was doing at W&M. You gotta be doing some really impressive things to get recognized on the most watched college football podcast as an OC at an FCS school.

Can’t get over 1-10 in one score games

Like at 3-8 maybe you could convince me that he’s just really unlucky, but 1-10 (even 2-9) your very likely just a bad football coach. Getting out coached week in week out combined with horrible in game management will take a team from being 5-0 to 2-3. We still have most of the season ahead of us but behind the scenes start getting the 8m together because it’s looking like the jury is out.

We need to clean house

We are lying to ourselves if we think this staff and Administration is ever going to lead us back to relevancy. Pry is a great dude but this staff has no idea what they are doing. They are 1-9 in one score games are consistently gapped in the coaching department week in week out. Every week it feels like they haven’t done a single second of game prep. This was supposed to be a make or break year for us and We’ve lost to Rutgers and Vandy. Yes they look like good teams but the perception is terrible. Fire Whit and Pry then go out the find someone who actually has a proven track record of winning football games.

These coaches shut down in close games

These coaches are getting worse and worse the more experience they get. If you can’t beat an 0-2 ODU team grouting out a 3rd string QB with the most talented VT team in 5+ years you aren’t the guy.

Relieve Bowen of his Playcalling duties

All around terrible coaching but damn that playcalling hurt to watch. This guy shuts down completely the second a team sells out to stop the run and quick screen game. Have to wait till being down multiple scores in the second half before the QB is allowed to throw the ball more than 5 yards down the field. Then the second we get back into the game with the downfield passing game, he goes away from it and back to what was NOT working. Same thing happened at NC State game. Get this dude out before he costs us more games this season.

Expanding North Endzone bleachers is the only thing we could really do

The only thing that would plausibly make logistical and financial sense would be to expand the north end zone bleachers to wrap farther around towards east and west stands. I know the idea has been thrown around but would probably only increase capacity a few thousand and would only be for students.

The money is better spent on football than Brooks

This opinion might be unpopular with some, but with the ACC’s future up in the air, we need to put all we can into football. We need get back to being a consistent top 25 team if we want a chance at a P2 invite. A potential 1m a year salary bump for Brooks is better spent on football coaching staff , facility upgrades or NIL. Once we get our conference future squared away then we can talk about splurging on Non Revenue sports.

It’s not just about the box score I agree

But this is a scenario were the game film matches up with the stats perfectly. He is just a great athlete running around out there with poor basketball skills. Yes obviously it would be different if he was 6’9 but he’s not. Bigs have different responsibilities on the floor and he’s not a big, he’s a guard. Teams who win a lot of basketball games don’t play guards who are extremely inept on the offensive end.

I mean yes

Obviously this is in the context of D1 Power Conference Basketball, not relative to your average person. He would obviously wipe the floor in any YMCA in the country

MJ Collins just isn’t a very good basketball player

The kid does has NBA level athleticism and is a good defender, but something is terribly wrong if someone who is as poor offensive player as him is getting significant minutes. He’s shooting 28% from the field and 23% from 3 which is just so terrible especially for a guard. Couldn’t really find any other that ACC player who get significant minutes with their shooting percentages in that ballpark. Not a great playmaker, ball handler, horrible shooting form and very poor basketball IQ. Probably the worst offensive player getting minutes in the ACC, and somehow is a consistent starter for us. He just straight isn’t close to being developed enough to be playing at the ACC level and shows how bad the roster management is if MY feels he needs to play him.

The only way we can compete is by shooting 3s and making them

This team is soo un-athletic and lacks guys who can score in isolation. If we aren’t raining down 3s and hitting them at an efficient rate this team will get boat raced by most of the ACC and the especially SEC teams. Gonna be a long season and short post season. MY needs to hit the portal and the recruiting trail.

The offense completely shuts down when we can’t shoot.

If we can’t hit a 3 and have no confidence to take them this offense just shuts down. No reason to chase guys through screens or close out if guys are scared to shoot or can’t make them.

Complete Regression

We look like the worst team in the P5 again. Soft ass defense. Horrifically bad play-calling. No ability to make even simple adjustments.

Drones

Drones running ability is really nice and makes the offense look a lot cleaner but man is he a bad pure passer. A game like this is an example of why Wells was starting. No real accuracy and no ability to make multiple reads and make quick decisions. He had a lot of open receivers today and still only put up 100 passing yards. If we wanna ever start being truly competitive he needs to take a massive step forward in that aspect of his game.

Pitt

Pitt looks absolutely terrible. We are playing our best game of the season but Jurkovic looks awful, literally 3/12

Brad Cornelson

Guess who is the OC of the worst offense in the country by a wide margin. Yes worse than us.

This isn’t 1987

The idea that we can give this trainwreck of a coaching staff 5 years is sooo outdated. Our program is so behind partly because of the idea that we need to “do it like Beamer did”

People comparing Pry’s first two years to Norvell’s is laughable

Norvell was 3-6 and 5-7 in his first two years (21 games played). So 8-13, with 6 of those losses coming from teams that would finish the season ranked and 6 of those wins against P5 teams (including one ranked win vs the loaded 2020 Sam Howell UNC team). His team made visible improvements in year two and had some competitive games against strong opponents, then ultimately won 10 games in year 3. Brent Pry is 4-11 through 15 games, 1-9 vs P5 teams (one loss to a team that would finish the year ranked). Pry has played much easier competition (yes with less talent) and looked much worse with no improvement to year 2 and honestly some regression. Not to mention Norvell had 4 seasons of experience coaching at the FBS level averaging 9.5 wins a season. Pry just ain’t turning this around. I’d love to be wrong but their isn’t any reason to believe otherwise.

We would love to have your mindset

But it’s just not rational. What exactly is Pry building here. Tough Defense? No. Worst Rushing defense in the country. Offense? No. Just as historically bad as last year even with upgraded talent. The young players don’t seem to be improving and the veterans are regressing. We are taking no steps forward and if anything taking steps back. Our fanbase has this fantasy that Pry is gonna breakout like Beamer in year 5 and bring us back to glory. College football is so different now and Beamer working out like he did was a once in multiple lifetimes type of thing. Whit did what the old timers of the fanbase wanted and try and find the next Beamer. It failed. It’s time to pivot to try save this program from the depths of the P5 and hire someone with actual experience.

That isn’t really that high in this day and age

10-15 million isn’t anything bad relative to a lot of P5 buyouts. If we can’t wrangle together 15 million to save the our program of the sport that pays all the bills, then why even tune in on saturdays?

Honestly just clean house

Not trying to be reactionary but Marshall didn’t even play well and beat us. Worst coaching staff in the country. We made a mistake and it’s glaringly obvious to everyone. How long before we pivot? Are we gonna ride it out for the next season and a half? We are clearly looking at 1-11 to 3-9 best case scenario. Is it really that crazy to just wanna rip the bandaid off right now (or pretty soon)? Am I crazy? If we keep this up and make no effort to change we will lose the fanbase that took decades of success to build up.

Patience is tough in this day and age

I’d love to be patient with Pry. But in this day and age with conference realignment, transfer portal, NIL, etc, we can’t afford to give a coach who is showing no on-field improvement or promise 5-6 years like Beamer got. 2-3 is now the norm.

Coaching staff is a disaster

Coaching staff is just complete trainwreck. Unprepared every game. Horrible, uncreative offense. Gashed on the ground every week. Always losing the turnover battle. I’m pretty sure Liberty is our only win in a one score game during this era. Brent Pry is 1-9 in 10 games vs P5 opponents. Awesome personality, great recruiter, but he just isn’t the answer.

The thing that is concerning is that ODU is bad

If we had gotten beaten by team with some solid talent and was churning on all cylinders then well yeah it’s a rebuilding year. But we lost to a bad ODU team who’s QB completed 37% of his passes.
