Menβs Club Lacrosse on to nationals β In Virginia!
VTβs Mens Lacrosse Clubs have wrapped up their seasons.
Div II finished 5th place in the Atlantic Lacrosse Conference (ALC) Div II North with a final record of 4-8 (2-4). It was a tough schedule with 5 losses against teams ranked #16 or higher. There were some bright points and the guys did a great job of building culture. And culture is what this program Div I & II are built on.
Div I finished the season ranked #3 in the country and a record of 13-1 (7-0). The only loss coming at home to #8 South Carolina 10-4 (3-0) back on Feb 27. The Div I schedule was no cake walk either with wins at home over #4 FSU, #9 Clemson, #20 Liberty and at #12 BC, #20 Northwestern, #5 Tennessee. Tech also beat #20 Liberty and #5 Tennessee again in the ALC tournament hosted at Liberty University to win both the ALC regular season and conference titles.
And now theyβre onto Nationals with this year are being held May 4th-9th at the River City Sportsplex in Midlothian VA. The Hokies are a 3 seed in the 16 team tournament taking on 14 seed Texas in the first round. Also in the tournament are former opponents from this season 4 seed FSU, 6 South Carolina (who VT may very well play in the 2nd round for a revenge matchup) 7 seed Clemson and 13 seed Northeastern. It would be great if we can pack the place with O&M for our guys and make it a home venue. If you unable to get there but are still interested, the games will be streamed online as well.
Hope to see as many of you in Midlothian as possible.

Costs and they are vulnerable
Yes the dumb ordinace is much cheaper but on those big old ships upgrading all the systems on board would not be cheap. Then once you have it out there they are much more expensive to run. An Iowa class had a crew 1,800-2,700 while a missile cruiser is around 330 men on board.
Plus the range on those battleships' guns would put them in the range of modern on shore artillery systems. Add to that what we've seen Ukraine has done with drone warfare and the battleships will either have to stay so far away from shore that they would be ineffective or they'd wind up as artificial reefs

Yeah, not for me either
Love then smell. Even worked in an on campus coffee shop. I loved when people would ask what I recommend and I'd always say tea. I have better ways to get caffeine if I need it. But in general, most mornings I do fine without it

Yeah I had the GT
Same size engine but had some more intelligent valve timing so it squeeze some more HP out of it and the 6 speed could be fun to drive. Not while sitting in city rush hour traffic.

It shared a platform with the Toyota Matrix
When all was said and done the only real difference was the exterior. The interior was actually the Pontiac design that Toyota too and copied. It was cheaper than the Toyota with all the same drive train.
It also made working on my wife's Corolla easy because I had all the parts already

My last car was a Pontiac Vibe GT
Fun little hatchback with a 6 speed. It could move for having only an 1.8L I4. And growing up dad drove a 6000 for a while in the late 80's

Are those 19.5M people worth +$200M a year?
I have no idea if ESPN thinks so or even has the money for it. I get they don't want to share regions with the B1G, but taking one school from each state for +$100M for the SEC and $120M for the B1G per year sounds much more reasonable for both conferences. But what do I know

Menβs Club Lacrosse putting a bow on the regular season tonight
The Div 1 team (12-1, 3-0) wraps up the 2024 campaign tonight in Knoxville against #17 Tennessee (9-1, 3-0) for the ALC South division title. Winner gets a first round bye in the ALC tournament and will play either WVU or the loser of the Liberty/JMU game this weekend. Loser will host Clemson (6-7, 2-2) next weekend. Speaking of the Tigers, VT beat them this past Saturday in Blacksburg for Senior Day 20-15. This was a high scoring affair on both sides for Tech. The 2nd most goals scored in a game this season. (26 against division foe ECU back on Feb 3rd) And tied for the most given up by the Hokies (12-15 loss at #11 Colorado (6-4)). VT started out strong, but it was a very streaky game. VT opened a 5 goal lead by the end of the 1st quarter, then Clemson went on a 4-0 run, then Tech went on a 4-0 run. The Hokies never gave up the lead in the game but the Tigers closed the lead down to a goal or 2 more than once. Whenever youβd start feeling like Tech had it hand, (up 18-9 in the beginning of the 4th quarter) Clemsonβs offense blows up to make you start sweating a little. Fortunately, VT hung on in the end to win setting up a de facto divisional championship with the Vols. On first glance the teams look similar in most categories. One loss out of conference, 15.5 vs 15.3 GF/G and 9.5 vs 10.2 GA/G. The glaring difference, and stop me of youβve heard this before, is strength of schedule. Tenn is 1-0 in games against ranked opponents. VT is 9-1. 10 of Tech 13 opponents are currently ranked in the top 25. VT has wins over #4 Chapman, #5 Utah Valley, #6 Liberty, #9 South Carolina to name a few. However, the Hokies are only 1-1 in true road games against ranked competition. Weβll see how they do tonight. VT should be able to win, but they will need to come to play if they want to defend their division title for a 3rd straight year. Tenn has 10 guys who have scored 10 or more goals this year so itβll be important play good team defense and get more good performance in goal. I think the game will be streamed on You Tube. Link Below. The Hokies held onto their #2 ranking and 9 of the 27 first place votes. #1 BYU (10-0) continues to hold the rest.
The Div 2 team wrapped up their inaugural regular season 6-5, 3-2. They will finish either 3rd or tied for 3rd in the ALC North division, so they are going to the ALC tournament in their first year of existence! Theyβll play at App St next Saturday April 20th. The Hokie lost to the Mountaineers at home in overtime back on Feb 10th, 12-13. But this is a much improved Tech team. They opened the season 1-3, went 2-2* in the middle and finished 4-0. Coach Joel and Kevin have done a great job bringing these guys up together. The team wrapped up their season with two game trip across the commonwealth this past weekend. On Sat Apr 6th, they took on William & Mary (6-3, 2-2) in Williamsburg in what was likely a game to see which first year program would grab 3rd place in the division and make the conference tournament. It was a close game that came down to almost the very end, but fortunately the Hokies came out on top 14-11. On the way back to Blacksburg the team stopped in the metropolis of Farmville to play Longwood (0-7, 0-5). The Lancers are another first year program and performed a lot more like youβd imagine a first year program would. Tech had its biggest win of the year with a score of 21-3. Longwood only dressed like 17 players so their few guys who were good were absolutely gassed in the 2nd half. And while the official stat sheet says their goalie, Justin Wood saved 24 or the 45 he faced, it seemed like so many more. Tech had 17 different goal scorers.
The team gets this weekend off to rest before heading to Boone, NC. The Mountaineers (5-2, 3-1) on the other hand play 3 games in 3 days away from home this weekend to wrap up their season. App Stβs season started out well going 4-0 before going 1-2. Those loses are against the only ranked teams theyβve played all season. Itβll be interesting to see how App St does this weekend. While the Hokies are trending up, the Mountaineers might not be playing their best lacrosse right now. Weβll know more in a few days. If Tech gets past the first round next week, theyβll play #T7 UNC-Charlotte (10-1, 5-0) in Lynchburg the following weekend.
* a win came against Arizona Div2 which is an associate level team so it does not could in the official record

I was listening to Dennis Dodd on XM College Radio
and his take was all this posturing is pointless. His sources all say neither the B1G or SEC is interested. So what's the point of leaving is you don't have a landing pad.
He also pointed out that a lot of private equity want something like a 30% ROI. And while it might help get them out soon, they could be in a lot of debt for a long time, negating the increased revenue

I got to go see Dr Robert Ballard tonight
What an amazing career he's had. So impressed with him not just as a scientist and explorer but as a human being. 80 years old, still so much energy and passion for the world of under sea discovery, new technologies and mentoring of the next generations. And he was genuinely a nice guy. He signed some stuff and took a picture with my dad who is a huge nerd for ship wrecks, especially the Titanic.

At least some are tracked and micro managed
I don't know if all post offices do this but...
TL;DR the letter carriers are tracked and monitored very closely. Depending on your supervisor, I can see how that could be very stressful
So the woman who used to deliver my parents had an interesting tale. Queenie delivered my parents neighborhood for years. The town I grew up in didn't have street mailboxes so the letter carriers would park the truck and walk to a few houses, get back in the truck, move up the street a little, rinse repeat. One day they see her name in the news paper because while delivering up the street, she noticed a strange noise coming from inside a house. Luckily the door was unlocked and when she poked her head in she finds an elderly woman lying on the floor at the bottom of the stairs who had just taken a bad fall. Quennie calls 911 and stays with the woman until the rescue squad gets there. Then she goes about her route.
A few days later she gets back to the post office, she is confronted by the postmaster about why she took so long at this house? Turns out she has to carry a GPS tracker so they can monitor where she is and to make sure she isn't stopped anywhere for too long. And that's actually the reason the store got to the paper. Quennie wasn't telling anyone what she did and she was actually quite shy about the whole ordeal. When the post office went to confirm her story with the rescue squad they realize that she might have saved this woman's life. My parents tried talking to her about it, telling her how great it was and she brushed it off as nothing. She almost seemed embarrassed by the attention.

Not taking great shots. A bunch have either been wide or right at their goalie. Their faceoff guy has already been called 3 times for illegal procedure. On the 3rd one, it becomes a delay of game penalty.

Men's Lacrosse onto the quarterfinal tomorrow against 8 seed GT (14-3)
After a slow start today, the Hokies picked opened up the scoring early in the 2nd quarter to eventually cruise to a 17-7 win over 16 seed Boise St.
At the conclusion of that game, 8 seed GT played 9 seed Concordia-Irvine on the same field. After grabbing an 8-2 halftime lead, the Yellow Jackets came close to blowing it as the Eagles (how is their mascot not the condors?) came back to give the "other" Tech a good scare. But GT held on to win 12-11.
Ranked #9 in the country, GT finished the season strong, making it to the SELC finals, losing15-17 to South Carolina. The Gamecocks (14-3) are not only ranked #4 in the country, the 3 seed in the tournament, and the MCLA defending national champions, but are also the only team to hand the Hokies a loss this season. They beat the Hokies 12-10 Feb 18th in Blacksburg.
The game will be tomorrow at 3PM CDT

End of 3rd Q 14-4
In the 3rd quarter, Boise scored first and Tech responded with 4 unanswered.
Fun moment. Broncos goalie made a save and tried to take the ball coast to coast. His shot was unsurprisingly stopped and led to an easy open net goal for the Hokies. That'll teach him
As you would expect, Tech has opened their bench in the 3rd Q since they look to win 4 games in 6 days.

Men's club lacrosse leads Boise St 2-1 end of 1Q
Both teams came out a off with several unforced turnovers on both sides for the first several minutes.
Boise managed to settle down first put the 1st goal on the board. But Hokies responded with 2 unanswered goals to close out the 1st period.
Tech first goal came on an extra man opportunity. The Broncos have been playing a very aggressive defense and we managed to burn them for it on the 2nd goal

#1 Men's Club Lacrosse headed to nationals
After clinching their first Atlantic Lacrosse Conference this weekend the Hokie unsurprisingly got the #1 seed in the upcoming national tournament.
Tech will face the Cinderella team Boise State
The Broncos were sitting at 6-6 before pulling back-to-back upsets of Simon Fraser and Oregon to win the Pacific Northwest Collegiate Lacrosse League tournament. Beating the number 1 and 2 seeded teams respectively may not be quite as impressive as it may seem though as the PCNLL has no teams ranked in the latest top 25 poll and only Simon Fraser receiving any votes (would be 26).
On Saturday, the Hokies faced a resurgent Pitt team, winners of six straight. The game turned out to be a relatively low scoring contest. Both teams were held to their 2nd lowest goal total of the year with the Hokies beating Pitt for the 2nd time this season by a seven goal differential.
Clemson was looking to pull another upset after beating Liberty 12-11 on Saturday despite being down for most of the game. The Tigers used a late game surge to get past the Flames and secure their shot at the ALC title.
In the finals, the Hokies started the game on fire with several quick goals to open up a 5-1 lead before halfway through the 1st quarter. In the beginning of the 2nd quarter Clemson closed to 5-3 before the Hokies went on another scoring streak and never looked back on to another decisive win 18-11. Tech beat Clemson 21-11 back in early April.
The game got a bit chippy at times which was capped off by the Clemson coach getting not just one, but two technical fouls called on him just after the conclusion on the game. I have no idea what he was saying the to the ref, and at first, I thought the yellow flag on the ground was there by mistake. The second flag came out and the ref went to the scorerΓ’β¬β’s table to T up their coach. I suppose with the game over their coach figured he had nothing to lose, and after the 1st flag he thought, why stop there?
Our Hokies look to win four games in five days at the MCLA National Tournament in Round Rock Texas May 9-14. The full bracket is as follows
#16 Boise State (8-6) v. #1 Virginia Tech (14-1)
#15 Texas Christian (12-6) v. #2 Brigham Young (15-2)
#14 Arizona (9-5) v. #3 South Carolina (13-3)
#13 Florida (13-2) v. #4 Minnesota (17-0)
#12 Cal Poly (8-7) v. #5 Clemson (13-4)
#11 Grand Canyon (7-6) v. #6 Liberty (10-4)
#10 Boston College (9-5) v. #7 USC (12-4)
#9 Concordia-Irvine (13-2) v. #8 Georgia Tech (13-3)
The team has to fund their own travel expenses so if you are able to help them out, it would be greatly appreciated.
