Question for the ignorant.

Since I have no knowledge of the subject. Is there a process for notifying authorities of the intent to move multiple forearms across state lines for the purposes of changing residence? Curious what the responsible gun owner thing to do is in this scenario? I hear that resp gun owner phrase a lot, but it seems to me that there are a lot of unresp ones that make it really hard on everyone else. TIA
