I agree with it. Duals used to be a lot more important in the 80s and 90s. Even the conference tournies were too. They aren’t today and that’s why you see starters sitting them out. It’s more important to be healthy and on a full tank in March than it is saying you beat UNC in a dual. Now the lower seeded team might get a benefit out of it recruiting size by March is about the only thing that matters. High schoolers in most states in the 80s and 90s would often get 30 matches a year. Now some states get up to 40 or more. Off-season used to be April-June for Greco and freestyle. Now it’s year round. So a youth wrestler has a lot more wear and tear by the time they hit college. That’s why you seem some college guys peak and decline during their careers.
