My Take

Only guesses here, but I think the weight cut stole some strength from Sam this year. It looked very similar to his 21-22 season at 125 (not quite as extreme). A lot of inconsistent results from somebody that has proved to be consistent when weight wasn't as big of an issue. With a full offseason of training and eating I don't think the jump to 141 is to much, just like the jump from 125 to 133 went smooth in 22-23. I think McGonagle only wrestled some this year at 141 because Crookham beat him out at 133. Small side note that may be swaying some opinions too is that McGonagle beat Sam this year.

Sam bumping up can allow Tampa Tom to rshirt. That would benefit Tom
