fewer points just because they received a bye ... earned by being the best in the weight class. Advancement points should be automatic. You earned the bye, therefore you earned the advancement point. The NCAA should change to this at a minimum. I'd add that the there should be an advancement bonus point available as well. If you win, you get that bonus point. If you don't, then you don't but still get the advancement point for the bye.
