Possible improvement, every school has a physical portal.....
In order to announce for the portal, you have to physically enter the school's portal, televised of course, to make your announcement.
And each Portal has a random number driven Trap Door, where randomly, a person announcing their portal entry, has the possibility of dropping down the trap door, disappearing from the sport.
Just a thought.
