Potential starting candidates Nelson - 1 Wenzel - 1/2 Daley - 2/3 Swanson - 2 Baker - 4 Freelon - 4/5 Peterson - 4/5 Trent/Jenkins - Highly doubtful that Trent or Jenkins start barring any injuries. Suffren - Chance she can start so not ruling that out with an off-season of development but Nelson might have the leg up Wells - Won't start. Will have to claw for playing time given Nelson, Wenzel, Suffren, Swanson, Daley Sears - I like her but doubt she comes in and sets the world on fire to start or get high in the rotation We have potential depth at guard. It isn't real depth until it is proven. That being said, I don't stress about having Sears - I like her but doubt she comes in and sets the world on fire to start or get high in the rotation 4-6 people who play the 1-2-3 spots. That is 3 spots with also backups. We also need to entertain Baker having time at the 3 depending on Peterson and Freelon in the game at the same time with Baker. So there are options. Right now, I think Baker and Wenzel will start. After that, there is room or opportunities for any of the above players to start any particular game. The team NEEDS either Suffren or Nelson to score from outside to go with drives.

I don’t imagine Suffren starting over Nelson, and I don’t think Jenkins will start over Peterson, Kilah from Texas Tech

She’s a pretty solid all around player. I think Sears and Wells will battle for that 6th spot. I think Sears will prob get more playing time as the season goes on though

...she is going to get a lot of minutes, and I wouldn't be surprised if she cracks the starting lineup sometime this season. At worst she'll be the first off the bench.

I do not think she is true point nor great shooter. Hope it changes. I do think she brings much energy and D prowess. I do believe she will be in game during the most critical moments. That said I stick by what I stated above.

But I grade Suffren higher than Nelson. Nelson is a solid player and will get a ton of minutes, but if Suffren picks up where she left off, opposing coaches will have to game plan for her. She needs to improve on her jumper, but she more dynamic of a player.

Even though IMO neither are true PGs

I think Mackie will make a big jump from last year to this year. But the question remains can she keep the defense honest with a consistent jump shot? And can she develop into the team’s true PG?

Look at a player like Hidalgo. She attacks the rim, gets buckets on drives, stresses the defense with speed, and draws fouls. Yes she can hit some jump shots or outside shots, but that is not her main weapon. Attacking the basket with speed is what has earned her national recognition. In the women's game there is room for all kinds of players. I don't know how good of a mid range or long range shooter Suffren is. But she can be effective regardless of that particular skill set.

But if one of them could add a consistent jump shot it would add a whole other dimension to there game and makes them much harder to guard. Hidalgo attacks the basket a lot but she still shot 40% from three last year.
