for the Hokies. If the team had 3-4 other scorers, then no problem. Ideally, the 4 leading scorers for VT would have been Wenzel, Baker, Freelon, and Daley. What Nelson contributed to on drives and the occaionall 3 was bonus. I understands that defenders might not respect her three. That does not mean she had to shoot it. With our spacing improving, her ability to get into the lane and draw defenders was valuable. She was not such a horrible defender that it cost us games. Our defense at times in several areas cost us game. We also didn't lose the Oregon game because Nelson was the starting PG> We didn't lose to Louisville, NC State, Duke, and UNC because Nelson was the starting PG. We need to look at the cold shooting of a lot people, the turnovers, the fouls by Freelon that took her off the court, etc, etc... Even though I understand the desire for a true point guard...who is distributor but maybe can also score.. However, i can also see her looking at Samyh, Wells,Wenzel, and Sears and know she isn't going to get someone (even someone who loves to compete) with those "guard types" in the way OR risk one of those transferring. Now, don't get me wrong, if someone transferred, it would not "hurt", but we don't Duffy's thinking. If she was trying to keep Suffren and Wells, would she recruit over them at a significant level? We might think she needs to, but we don't know her priorities.
