South Carolina making a run for Beachum - along with two other players

The Gamecocks are scheduled to host at least three portal prospects on campus for visits this weekend, with more of course in the works for down the line, GamecockCentral has learned.
A huge emphasis for the coaching staff this offseason will be to add players with experience and proven offensive numbers.
— College of Charleston transfer pitcher and Lexington native Mazkenzie Mathis is currently on campus at South Carolina at the time of this writing. The Gray Collegiate graduate recorded a 3.35 ERA and pitched a team-high 161.0 innings and 13 complete games for the Cougars’ NCAA Tournament team this season. She also had the second-best ERA in the league in conference games (1.66) with eight wins and three shutouts, per her bio.
— Later this week, the Gamecocks are scheduled to host Florida Atlantic four-star transfer outfielder Kylie Hammonds for an official visit. The Jacksonville native is a rising senior with one year of eligibility left and is ranked the No. 10 player in the portal currently by On3. Hammonds slashed .373/.492/.609 this past season with nine homers and 26 RBI after posting similar numbers as a sophomore.
— The Gamecocks are slated to take a major swing at On3’s No. 3 overall player in the portal and Second-team All-American Florida State four-star transfer third baseman Jaysoni Beachum. Beachum is scheduled to arrive in Columbia tonight for an official visit, the bulk of which will take place all day on Wednesday, I have learned.
I expect South Carolina to pull out all the stops for Beachum, who has some prior connections to five-star signee Aspen Boulware. The First-team All-ACC performer and former National Player of the Year slashed .406/.549/.671 this past season with 10 home runs and 69 RBI. A three-year starter for the Seminoles, Beachum has 37 career homers and 180 career RBI.

as well as Madison Azua, arguably the #1 pitcher in the portal (from Texas AState).
Both players are from Texas.

Torres is from Texas and, of course, Texas Tech has been throwing a LOT of money around recently. An FSU message board poster said that the Red Raiders were dangling $1.4 million in her general direction (BUT it a message board, so beware...lol)
The linked story linked below was headlined "Patti Gasso may have no Choice but to avoid the Isa Torres sweepstakes for Oklahoma," included this comment:
"As a Texas native, Texas, Texas A&M and Texas Tech all immediately seem to be the top options for Torres. Not only would they bring Torres back home, but all of those programs also have stacks of cash to offer with the ability to outbid the Sooners, even if OU went all in for Torres."
The writer makes a logical case that the Sooners should concentrate on keeping their existing young talent and that it's "clear (that) their top priority to get from the portal this offseason is an ace for the pitching staff."
It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
