Wrapping up today’s Blaze - Volts game
For anyone interested:
Pickens goes the distance and earns her second career pro win for the Blaze, who win 9-1 via 6th inning run rule
Canady enters in relief in the 4th. No K’s registered. I believe 3 HR’s given up (two to Longhorn Reese Atwood). 5 ish earned runs (may have been 6), including the walk off.
The Blaze look like they have a good amount of fan support down there in Durham. Although yes there are empty seats in the stands on the broadcast, when the ESPN camera pans around there are a solid amount of fans in the grass lawn down both baselines, and all around the outfield fence as well.
Looks like a fun environment … Will definitely look to get the family down there for one or two games this season. Hopefully one where #27 is called upon to help her team in the circle.

. . . . maybe the coach's daughter wasn't particularly effective coaching her. I could cite numerous examples of pitchers either not improving or going backwards during their collegiate careers. Assuming 'she's going to be better next year' because of experience or age is often a bad bet. Maintaining excellence in the circle takes some orthopedic good fortune and a lot of well-planned work.

excellence is usually easier than maintaining excellence once you get there. And when you move somewhere else to get a big paycheck it only adds to the pressure. Do you think the majority of people view Canady as the best pitcher coming out of college or the highest paid? I know how I feel.

. . . two years ago. At the end of this year there are at least three or four I'd take over her including Pickens and Kavan.

Tickets should be much more plentiful there. I believe it’s 6/25 to 6-27 versus the Talons

I don't know if it was a sell out but there were a lot of people at the game. Karlyn Pickens pitched her first game and the the Blaze won in 5 innings. I see she had her second win today. They are looking good!
