Not sure how many "if necessary" games we see but for those we do see,
I would bet on the loser's bracket team which forced the "if necessary" game to come out on top the majority of the times that a "if necessary" game happens as momentum is with them. Couldn't find a source for the historical data on that - just seems like that is what happens most of the time. In other words, if VT can win the first game, I feel really good about them winning the second game. As far as how many "if necessary" games we see, I think a lot of depends on whether the host team is undefeated or has one loss. I would expect host teams to force "if necessary" games the majority of times. ** Edited by Walkin` Willie at 5/17/2026, 11:45:55 AM

3 host teams are coming from the loser's bracket, 12 are 2-0.
Duke, FSU & Texas A&M are the hosts with a loss. Oregon is the only host that's been eliminated.
