When the Atlanta Braves had Maddox, Smoltz, Glavine, etc, they had great pitching and did have a good offense. But in the post-season, the other teams have good pitching too. We have to have that good offense against good pitching! :0

they were hampered by the Bobby Cox mantra of having slow, poor-hitting white guys in the #2 spot to "advance the runner." That last theory has been since *proven* to be a loser by advanced analytics. I knew it at the time. Very frustrating. The 2026 VT softball team has neither of those problems. We hit for average, we have a very high OBP and we do more than hit home runs. We have very good pitching and fielding as well. And we are not hampered by a coach with old-fashioned ideas that lose games.

In general, I’ve always believed great pitching beats great hitting. But not with those ‘90’s Braves (except for 1995).

We waste too many pitches when we get to 2 strikes then end up walking people after a foul ball battle Attack them with change of speed from previous pitch and/or higher or lower plane than previous pitch but stop the attempted “chase” pitches in the other batters box

We have escaped many a situation this year with RISP due to multiple walks. I sure hope they stop calling the ‘wasted’ pitches and make teams hit the ball. We have a good defense behind the pitchers. Yes, they will get smashed here and there, but without the walks the damage should be pretty controlled.
