Just to head off the complaints about the "Lonni Love" you will . .
. . . undoubtedly hear tomorrow. She is simply one of the best and most personable coaches in the game. The college football analogy might best be Frank Beamer. Why not Bobby Bowden? Lonni doesn't cheat. If you haven't heard already you will tomorrow: She has no transfers (in or out) on her roster. Then, of course, there's the cancer survivor thing! So, tomorrow, just grin and bear it! ** Edited by MidloHokie at 5/8/2026, 8:08:02 PM

No doubt, she’s a great coach and person as well.
I chatted with her for a few moments last season when we played FSU in Blacksburg. Some coaches won’t acknowledge an opponent’s fans.

I will never forget the VT-F$U series in Lemley’s freshmen season.
We dominated the first 2 games and were threatening to sweep in the third when with Lemley on the mound, the umps proceed to call an illegal pitch every other pitch she threw. The umps only called it because F$U’s coach was throwing a hissy fit at them. All of that was to get in Lemley’s head so that F$U could salvage a game in the series.

When did she take over.
Going back in time when Tincher was pitching for us. I was up for the Spring football game, but I watched the VT-FSU softball The FSU coach began immediately barking at the ump about illegal pitches by Tincher. And sure enough, at strategic moments the ump would call an illegal pitch. Back then base runners moved to the next base. It was intentional to screw up Tincher. Tincher had a pretty rough game, but she still won. Haven't cared for F$U softball since then.

I haven't cared for FSU anything. Happy to see them lose anytime!

Yeah, she was bad news.
She was the coach from 1979 to 2008, and a FSU grad, even got a PhD there. Things got a little rough in the final years. Lonni Alameda has been the coach since Graf “retired”.

My daughter interacted with her a number of times when she was a . .
. . . 'lowly assistant' at a couple of non-P4 schools. This was a decade ago. She was stunned at how down-to-earth she was. Not a shred of "who are you, anyway" that she would get from some far lesser coaches. Often said if she could go back and play one more year it would be at FSU.
