Great Podcast with Emma Lemley, Rachel Castine, and others
It also includes Eden Bigham (UVA) and Maddie Gordon Penn State) so four awesome players from the state of Virginia. One interesting tidbit: Emma Lemley and Emma Ritter had convinced Coach Pete to let the ladies switch positions when they were scheduled to play Robert Morris. Emma Ritter was going to start in the circle and Emma Lemley was going to start in center field and then they would switch positions after one pitch. That would have been worth the price of admission (Oh, wait...the price of admission???) They were also asked who their favorite teammate of all time was and there were some very cool answers. For Rachel, it was Jayme Bailey ("she knew when to be funny and stuff, but also when to be super serious, she was a great ballplayer but also a great leader, but off the field she was a great friend") and for Emma it was Keely Rochard (when Emma was a freshman, Keely "really took me under her wing" and Cam ***an ("she was always a focal point" for Emma and could always calm her down no matter what had happened). Good stuff.

I really wish Maddie and her older sister Kate Gordon (JMU alum) had attended VT (if we even offered?). Kate had a great career at JMU with 71 HRs and a career .407 BA. Her shining moment was the HR that toppled Oklahoma in the WCWS game in the opening game. Was fun watching this interview and seeing Maddie grown up. I just knew their father well as he was the catcher on my little league team way back in the early 80s and that little school of Page County rarely puts out D1 college athletes in any sport. Thanks for posting!

I would’ve given Ritter a whole batter in the circle!
Most likely, she walks the batter or the batter puts the ball in play if Ritter is hyper focused on just throwing strikes. But maybe that batter would’ve hit one out to center field and then we could have seen if Lemley’s fielding is up to par out there! She definitely fields her position pretty well, but there’s a lot less ground to cover from the circle, of course. Or, if the batter hit one back to Ritter in the circle. Would she have been able to field it cleanly and make that “easy” toss over to 1B? Fun stuff to think about. Too bad that series was canceled and we didn’t get to see this switch.

Grrrrrr When I see anything about the "price of admission" connected with
VT softball, my BP goes up 25 points!!! Must count to 10!!
