Texas has not announced the exact schedule for their tournament but simply going there to play speaks volume. Did you hear they were the NCAA runner-up last year???? Here's some notes I put together about the Longhorns: Texas ended the 2022 season with a 47-22-1 record and a #2 ranking in USA Today/Coaches Poll after falling to Oklahoma in the NCAA Championship series. The Championship loss capped a magical postseason run for the Longhorns as they became the first unseeded team to ever reach the WCWS Championship Series. Texas finished the 2022 regular season with 38-17-1 record and earned the program’s 17th consecutive bid to the NCAA’s where the Longhorns were sent to #13 seed Washington. The Longhorns won the Spokane Regional, beating the Huskies 2 out of 3 before dispatching #4 Arkansas in the Super Regionals to qualify for the College World Series. After losing a Winner’s bracket game to #1 Oklahoma, the Longhorns battled back in the elimination bracket to earn a spot in the Championship series where they fell in two straight to the Sooners by scores of 16-1 and 10-5. The Longhorns return 15 players off last year's WCWS roster, including seven that played in at least 56 games. Among the returnees are All-Big 12 Honorees Mia Scott (sophomore .377 average, 64 starts, 77 hits, 62 runs, four HR's, 26 steals, 38 RBIs), Alyssa Washington (junior .279 average, 63 starts, 30 runs, 48 hits, 35 RBIs), Katie Cimusz (sophomore .244 average, 57 starts, 38 hits, 9 HR's, 32 RBIs) and Sophia Simpson (sophomore 8-4 record, 3.57 ERA, 29 appearances, 16 starts, 105 strikeouts in 86 innings pitched). Texas added seven players to the roster, including a pair of transfers and a five-member signing class that ranked No. 12 in the nation according to Extra Inning Softball. One of the transfer is former Arizona State sophomore right-handed pitcher Mac Morgan (18-3 record in 2022, 2.82 ERA, 75 strikeouts in 119 innings). It's certainly going to be a challenge for the Hokies, but what a great opportunity.
