Hokies Dominate UVA-Wise in Fall Ball Opener It was basically a formal scrimmage against an over-matched opponent, but the huge crowd that showed up at Tech Softball Park Friday night had to feel good about what they witnessed. The Hokies simply took care of business in an impressive fashion, outscoring UVA-Wise 19-0 during the 10 innings played, registering 21 hits and scoring in seven of the ten frames. There were numerous hitting stars • Kelsey Brown batted leadoff and led the VT attack, going 3 for 3 and driving in 3 runs • Jayme Bailey, Bri Peck, Addy Greene, Teagan Thrunk, Emma Yates, and Trinity Martin each each added two hits • Cam ***an, Emma Ritter, Megan Furr, Bailey, and Peck each drove in two runs. But the VT pitching staff was even more impressive, giving up only a single hit and striking out 18 while walking only two in a performance that had to have the Hokie faithful smiling all the way home: • Emma Lemley started and pitched three perfect innings, striking out 7 of the 9 batter she faced while being called for ZERO illegal pitches. • Freshman Payton List followed Lemley with two hitless innings and two strikeouts • Molly Jacobson threw the next three innings and struck out five • Freshman Lyndsey Grein pitched a perfect ninth and tenth inning, registering four strikeouts. Kylie Alridge started at catcher and looked very comfortable although the lack of Cavalier baserunners didn't challenge her arm. She went one for one at the plate with two walks. She was replaced by Rachel Castine about halfway through the game. Thrunk started at shortstop and I believe played the entire game there (the players didn't wear uniform numbers, so it was a bit hard to tell defensive assignments). Next up for the Hokies is a home game on Tuesday, October 4th against Carson-Newman. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00pm.
