NCAA Softball Regionals by the Numbers .....
Using the old school terms below of 1-seed through 4-seed in the region.
1. 13 of 16 top seeds won their regional (all except Duke went undefeated). This has been the average for the last 5 years.
2. One top seed (overall #9 seed FSU) lost in 1st round but got back to champ series but lost in final game of region.
3. One top seed (overall #15 seed Texas A&M) lost both games in region to 2-seed (ASU).
4. One top seed (overall # 14 seed Oregon) lost in the 1-0 and elimination games and did not make final series. L. Grein was out due to eye infection.
5. Ten 2-seeds got to the champ series (3 won region including Miss St, UCF, and ASU).
6. Six 3-seeds (UM, GT, USF, GCU, Baylor, St Mary's) got to the champ series but none won the region.
7. One 4-seed (USC Upstate) go to the champ series.
8. 9 SEC, 4 Big12, 2 Big10, and 1 ACC team made it to Super Regionals.
9. No Top 8 national seeds lost.
10. Only real surprise was UCF over FSU. Miss St over Oregon and ASU over Texas A&M were very mild upsets.
