Impressive - every mazz strikeout was swinging

That was a quality win. UVA is a quality opponent with enough pitching and timely hitting that it can win any given game if everything falls in place and the opposing team helps. We didnt help on a might that the big bats were quiet. Even with the early error or fielding mishap, ee didnt let uva make us pay. Even with the erratic first couple of batters in the first inning, mazz didn't let uva make us pay. We paid slightly in the last inning, but finished the job. Addison Foster is an engine on this team. She is generating runs, not just scoring runs. Her triple showed her speed and aggressive mindset. I love when she and her teammate crashed into each after she crossed home plate. The double play by chatfield and castine was a thing of beauty. Athletic, calm, precise. The doubles by Rohs and Yaeger were not some bloop plays. They got to the pitcher when we needed insurance. Lastly, mazz with 14 strikeouts, all of them swinging. That is impressive to me. Strikeouts looking might mean she would have batters guessing and would mean fewer potential balls in play. But swinging means there is a chance they connect, and anything can happen. There were few tip strikeouts our foul balls. she had them missing. She had them desperate. I think that what makes it impressive. As much as a coach can talk about discipline, mazz had the batters in desperation mode where they had to swing at some pitches outside. But so many final strikes were in the zone, even if high or low. That might have been one of her best. The walks were not an issue for 6 innings, so she had great control for much of the game. In the first inning, i said some of her balls were not close and not about the umpire. Any balls late were either close (umpire didnt like borderline low pitches) or were fishing attempts. She was dealing, putting runners down and leading VT in to the semis. She actually smiled once in the mound, which is rare. It was nice to see her and Yaeger’s reaction to the final out, they knew it was intense and they were on a razor’s edge. Duke will be hard, but i would anticipate the top of the lineup waking up a bit. Carrico-mazz combo will be in play. out so they didn't come in bunches

She threw a lot of off speed first pitches for strikes. I think that caught
