I was at a Nationals game in DC yesterday. Even though work paid for the ticket, it cost $70 to park. And $16 for 3 chicken tenders that left me still hungry. And after two $21 beers I had no desire to go back for more. And even though my son and I followed that team very closely when he was a little younger, there wasn’t a single player on the team or coaching staff we recognized. I had a free $50 free voucher to spend at the gift shop and nothing stood out so we gave it away to a junior nats fan. A few weeks ago we saw a Charlotte Knights minor league baseball game and that was ok. Though the Charlotte Hornets NBA game that night just wasn’t for us (and that night cost us over $750). I don’t consider myself cheap, but when you pay out that much $$ for these other events you just want to get more out of it. Bottom line – over the past several years nothing has been as fun for us as watching VT softball. Our team competes, plays the right way and has a chance to win every game. And you get to see the same core of players come in, develop and get better and then graduate … and then come back later and cheer on the team from the stands. Sending our end of season donation to Hokie Chip is much more fulfilling than over-spending at these other events. As for the loss earlier this week, yeah that sucks for sure but tonight is a great opportunity to come back strong and get over it … and that’s actually one of the many many reasons we love VT Softball. The overall energy is so much more positive win or lose. And at the end of the day, how our team competes in early May on into June was always going to write the story of this season much more than a mid-week game in April. Go Hokies!!
