There was a very limited slate of softball games yesterday. The only one that I see that could have affected VT is Arkansas beating Auburn 4-1. The Hokies hold two wins over Auburn from February. The RPI calculation weighs a team's winning percentage (25%), its opponents' winning percentage (50%), and its opponents' opponents' winning percentage (25%). Auburn's adjusted RPI value fell from .61161 to .61119, a decrease of .00042. Auburn's loss apparently caused VT RPI value to fall from .64066 to .64023, a decrease of .00043. For some reason that I haven't figured out, Ole Miss' RPI increased from .63923 to .64047. I can't see where any of their opponents played, so it must be the opponents' opponents portion of the formula. Regardless, Ole Miss jumped VT in the RPI rankings - Ole Miss is now 17 and the Hokies are 18. One day is not a big deal - winning will take care of everything. But dang is this confusing.
