I was an hour late to start this game, but watched from the beginning:

I am guessing this has been brought up, but... That Walk by Mazz of the leadoff batter for Auburn in the bottom of the 1st inning, was on 3 balls. I went back thru the video twice, and it went strike, strike, foul ball, ball, ball. Then the 1st base umpire stopped play for something (about Mazz?), Pete talked to the team and umps at the pitcher's mound, and then when play finally started again, the plate umpire said the count is 2 & 2, but the 1st base umpire came in and convinced him it was a full-count (which it was not). The next pitch was a ball, which they counted as ball 4. Fortunately, for my voice and sanity, our awesome ladies got out of the jam unscathed. I am pissed at this umpiring crew and disappointed in Pete's scorer for not calling time to review video of the pitches prior to the long stoppage of play. Then they threw Pete out of the game in the 2nd inning and our wonderful women kicked Auburn's ass (again)! Lastly, Chip, please tell the Hokie fan behind home plate to turn around, get off his phone, stop bothering other fans, and watch the damn game. He was pissing me off for distracting Mazz (and me) and making all Hokies look bad.

The Auburn coaches complained - that’s the only reason the umps called it.

Yup. Video confirmed. 1B ump incorrectly overrules Home plate ump to 3-2...

Apparently, they called an illegal pitch concerning Mazz's rosin bag...
VTChip 02/28/26 07:31 PM ET
I thought they called an illegal pitch more than once.**
dallasvt 02/28/26 11:00 PM ET
They did, but I was referencing the one where no pitch was made**
VTChip 02/28/26 11:02 PM ET
I know, but what was the other one for? Losing contact with the rubber?**
dallasvt 02/28/26 11:03 PM ET
Someone said that, someone said replanting

What is the rule? Who was right, coach or the ump?**

I’m not a rules expert but I did find this section

He's in the Hall of Fame - I'll bet your last dollar none of those umps are**

The only thing I can think of…
Chesapeake_Hokie 02/28/26 06:52 PM ET
That's possible, but I'm positive she only threw 3 balls to that batter.**
Nortazhokie 02/28/26 07:22 PM ET
And each ump carries a hand clicker with balls, strikes, and outs.
TomTurkey 02/28/26 06:45 PM ET
I've seen plenty of umps, wanting to look experienced and real smart, work
laphroaig 02/28/26 07:47 PM ET
Dumb. We used rubber bands to keep track of downs in football.
TomTurkey 02/28/26 07:50 PM ET
Of course**
laphroaig 02/28/26 07:53 PM ET
I’m not sure they are using video this tourney **
