Folks, last week, I asked people who attended the softball series with Stanford to consider sending in a donation to the softball program to cover their “admission” costs. This was a result of being told (by a person who should know) that even if we charged admission to softball, those funds would go into a central pool and would not necessarily return to softball. A generous donor stepped up and said that he would match any “admission donations” that were sent in up to $20,000. Well, it’s now been one week, and, as usual, HokieNation and TSL are simply killing it! I currently have over 35 checks and another 20 transfers on PayPal and Venmo that total OVER $7,500!!!! Since those dollars are double, that means we have raised over $15,000 for the softball program. IN ONE WEEK!!! That’s AWESOME!!!! And whenever I open an envelope, you folks are making me smile with your comments. Some of you are sending amounts to cover the whole season, some of you watched online and wanted to send money for that, some of you are just making generous donations , and one person gave me a check at NC State that exceeded what he had paid NC State to attend the games because he didn’t want the Pack to get more money than the Hokies!!!! LOVE IT!!!!! I LOVE IT!!!! I LOVE IT!!! Every single dollar is greatly appreciated and will go straight to the softball program. And it’s not too late. The way our mail works in Roanoke, I expect to be getting checks for the next couple of weeks and that’s fine. And if you would like to give, it would be GREATLY appreciated. Simply make the check to "Virginia Tech Athletic Fund - Softball" and mail to me at Chip Grubb 8155 Bent Mountain Road Roanoke, VA 24018 Like always, I will gather the checks together and take them to the Softball staff (Coach Pete/Bill Olds) and they will get them to the Hokie Club. You will still get credit for a specific sport donation per the Hokie Club rules. If you would rather do PayPal ([email protected]) or Venmo, you can do that as well, but it's a little more bulky to get the Hokie Club credit since it's flowing through my account (which I'm not crazy about, anyway).
