Some coaches will emphasize:
"putting the ball in play." - as you said
"slap hitting to get on base." - as you said!
- Actually Addison Foster was more of a slapper until her second year at Stetson. To be more accurate, she drag bunted, she slapped, etc. But she got away from slapping.
Where you might see if translate is the limited bunting we do. So, while it might sound "yeah, duh" or intuititive, it isn't necessaruily a given mantra. TO your point, it isn't abot "hard" or "soft", it is the approach to hitting
