The announcers would say...

... and have said, that our regularly starting 3rd baseman is a phenomenal freshman and an outstanding (game-changing) player. They have said that sometimes she is "the best player on the field".

... and they'll acknowledge that a throw got away from her, or that a ball should have been caught.

I have not yet heard them suggest that we're losing games because of our defense, or that we are going to lose games in the playoffs because of the same.

I love that this board is full of mostly faithful softball supporters, and I absolutely consider CAR among those. I think that he/she generally knows quite a bit about softball. I think that the facts are correct that we have more errors in the hot corner than in other positions. Remember to NEVER COMPARE errors across positions, however. Our 3rd baseman makes us a BETTER team and WINS us games.
