I don't think the article goes far enough
When it says that coaches have two jobs: develop and win games, and winning games takes priority....I would hazard that many players who are encouraged to transfer would easily help their previous team win games. And where there is an focus on new coaches, this happens with existing coaches and it isnt just about someone being over-recruited. We KNOW there are players who can help the teams win, who are quite capable of starting and contributing, etc but are encouraged to transer, many going to another D1 school, starting, and doing well or even better. Sometimes it is also about coaches latching on to favorites. I know the "coaches see them every day" mindset but we also know coaches get fired for reasons, some of them being bad personnel decisions. I think the article had the potential to do be so much more. It does not even go in depth on the dark side of the transfer portal.

I don't think the portal has that dark side. Players can get up and leave

182 in the portal - 48 found new homes. 26% success, 74% no success.
